So we thought the last night bus was bad....this was so much worse, never again! After about 20 stops we arrived into Istanbul after a 14hr bus ride. We then waited for a bus for an hour and half before getting dropped at the wrong place. It was not fun but hey this is the last time we'll have to deal with it so it's all good!
After arriving to our hostel at lunch we dropped the bags, had showers and hit the town in search of food since we hadn't eaten since 6pm the night before! So having been in Turkey for two weeks we were kind of craving western food so we hit Maccas up for a quick fix! We then strolled the extremely busy streets of Instanbul and couldn't believe how much this city was heaving with tourists! This being our third time back to Istanbul, the other two times were for Gallipoli which was packed full of Aussies & Kiwis and winter last year so to be back in summer we realized just how popular this city is, it's definitely worth a visit! After our long stroll we went to our favourite little Turkish cafe for some Turkish delights and apple tea and as always it was amazing. The afternoon was spent wandering and relaxing before meeting up with a new friend, Hojin who we met on our tours in Cappadocia and having our last traditional Turkish meal, it was a great evening and a nice way to end our time in Turkey!
Day 65 had come around way too fast and it was time to say goodbye to Europe :( We have had the BEST time traveling this continent over the last two years, seeing some great places, having some amazing experiences that we'll remember for a long time to come and meeting some fantastic people along the way but it ain't over yet...hello USA!!!!
As we flew out of Istanbul, 5hrs later we were decending into London and as we came in we went over the city and saw all the sites including the last building I worked in. This was quite a sad moment as it became so real that that part of our life is over and at that point I missed London so much and everyone there but hey we'll be back one day, that's for sure!
After a long and s***ty plane ride (Bretts ear phones didn't work and he was then moved next to a smelly big man) we arrived into JFK in the early evening buzzing with excitement! At the taxi rank we bumped into an old friend from London (its such a small world) and before we knew it we were coming into New York city with the skyline in site ahhhh!!!! :)
We arrived at our awesome apartment where Bel and Dave were waiting with beers and caught up and discussed our days ahead. As it was getting on we got dressed and headed out for some dinner near Times Square. Times Square was amazing and everything it was cracked up to be with it's busy traffic, huge lights and advertisements and of course the thousands of people everywhere - awesome! We then hit Carmines traditional family Italian restaurant where we shared two huge plates of pasta with a bottle of red wine which was so good! By this point after dinner Brett and I were pretty much sleep walking as we had been up for 27hrs straight so needless to say we went back and crashed out but what a great start to our time in NYC!
