Brenton Kovacs's Travels
After a hearty breakfast from the Hotel Europa we drove down the road to visit the site of the first Olympic games. The museum was full of amazing artifacts, statues etc dating back to the 5th Century BC. I am not a big fan of spending much time in a museum, but this one was so interesting we stayed for many hours, so much to take in.
After the museum we wandered around the sacred site. Stood right where they light the Olympic torch every 4 years, and then it starts the journey to the city holding the games. This place would have been magnificent to see in its original state, before age and earthquakes have taken their toll. It was so peaceful here, we lost all track of time.
By the time we finished exploring archeological site, it was way past lunch time. Found a nice cafe with outdoor seating, so we ordered some really good Greek food, and whiled away a few hours with some great music and surroundings. So peaceful and serene. This is a beautiful part of Greece.
We have been eating plenty of free oranges. The are orange trees everywhere. Not as sweet as the ones from home. Did get a rude shock today. The Saab had about half a tank of fuel, so i thought i would top it up. Delphi is only 230ks away, but not sure if the fuel stations will be open tomorrow. Plus we wont be driving on any highways, it will be via the back roads through lots of old villages.
Anyway it took 30 litres. At 1.65 euro a litre this was $50 Euro worth or just under $70 aussie for half a tank. Now i wish we had the nice small car i originally booked with Avis. Oh well, it is nice to have such a luxury car for a change.

Adrya Kovarch Very Stylish.
Adrya Kovarch What a stunning photograph - this one needs to go on the wall Alan. Such a pretty place.
Adrya Kovarch Oh yes, I too was captivated by the history and beauty of the sculpture and you find most of these in museums - well worth the visit.
Adrya Kovarch You just can't look at these sculptures enough to feel the absolute brilliance of the sculptor. After all he started from a block of marble and out came this stunning piece. Well you have seen the orginal Hermes, exquisite!
Adrya Kovarch You can see why David is an avid reader of Greek history and art. Our civilisation stemmed from these creative people. I too have dabbled in reading some of the history and art - truly worth while.
Adrya Kovarch Brings back memories.
Adrya Kovarch The towns and cities must have been so sophisticated and one can see why for at least 2 undred years before the Romans trashed Greece they were considered such an advanced group of people, especially in trade, philosopohy and politics and art of course.
Adrya Kovarch You can almost hear the crowds cheering!
Adrya Kovarch Extraordinary!!
Adrya Kovarch Looks quiet, good time to go out of season.
