"We're about to go through security; I'm getting naked!" - James Jacobs
Today we sadly departed not only the 'city that never sleeps', but the country where we spent the past 3 weeks: nine different states, three different time zones and many a national park. We've enjoyed the genuine and friendly people that we have met along our journey, eaten far too much Mexican food and joined forces with some of the most influential people we've ever met... Dashboard Minion and Jackie the blow up doll! It's been an absolute pleasure.
Before we get all emotional about our road trip coming to an end, let's update you on what happened on our last day. We woke up and checked out by 12pm, headed to Caesars Palace for some lunch. Upon arrival there was a queue for the popular buffet that was well over an hour, so we gambled instead. We made our way to the Fashion Mall for some final retail therapy and lunch where we ate the biggest pizzas filled with garlic...nom nom! Finally, we headed back to our hotel to gamble away any left over money we may have had, and lost the majority of it; Chris will be happy to share with you that he put a spontaneous $60 bet on black 2 minutes before we left and won - well done Christipapa!
Arriving at the airport we were surprised to be able to check in before we'd set foot into the airport itself - very impressive. They did however, inform us that our flight was delayed by an hour. Unfortunately, there wasn't a lot to do in the airport in terms of shops, etc so we parked ourselves up at a bar and ordered some last minute food before our flight.
We know you're all dying to know what happened to this exciting Pokemon battle that we promised you would take place back on Thursday; however, priorities took over and the battle was delayed... until today. After James completed the game by catching all 150 Pokemon after 10 years of trying, the battle commenced.
After Nick asked the pair in a pre-battle interview, how they felt and how the battle would go, they both responded with:
James: "I feel fine. I've got a game plan. Don't tell anybody, but I'm hoping he will f*** up and then I can take advantage."
Marc: "I'm a little nervous, but I think I've trained them well and believe the team will pull together. He's not going to hit me once!"
The battle took place in the town of Indigo Plateau; the teams were in and the battle commenced. Nick and Chris had chosen their Pokemon trainers to back and everyone had a LAD point to gain - you could feel the intensity in the atmosphere.
Live Feed: After a sly first move, Marc made a mistake and James gave the first hit; however, it was no match for Marc and James' first Pokemon was out. Marc made another mistake and this time his tactical error cost him his first Pokemon. Marc redeemed himself and was surviving with one more Pokemon than James.
With a critical hit James lost his third Pokemon... it's going Marc's way at the moment. James sent out his strongest Pokemon and Marc switched his over and lost... ouch! It's three a piece and the game could be anyone's! After an epic performance from Blastoise, James withdrew him. A short battle led to James having to send out his last Pokemon; Blastoise.
It's over... Marc is the winner!
An epic battle and completely unexpected. Marc earned himself a LAD point (as did Nick for backing him) - the grin on Marc's face post-battle said it all. After Marc's Hulk Hogan man point and the Pokemon battle, the final LAD points score for the Boys on Tour 2013: Route 66 award, are as follows:
Nick: 5
James: 5
Chris: 4
Marc: 3
Due to the fact that the points were a tie, Marc did earn the most LAD points throughout the holiday and after a short discussion we were adamant that Marc was the person who should rightfully take the trophy home...
Marc Taylor: Trophy Winner!
We finally made it onto our flight at 10:30pm and settled into our economy seats. It would be a shame if we all didn't write our own individual blogs to end the trip and talk about all of the things that we took with us from this incredible three weeks together (see following blogs).
One thing we've learnt about being friends that has helped us through 24/7 together... Woooosaar!
