Chris: James, have you farted again?
James: Yep, that's one of the occupation hazards when sitting behind me.
Listening to Coldplay, ACDC and Mumford & Sons, we were on route by 9am heading in the wrong direction once more. Collectively, we decided to make a u-turn at the most convenient place; right next to an armadillo. Unfortunately, it was dead. Picture moment? Of course! This set the theme for the day...
Just outside Oklahoma City we stopped at two locations; first being the rounded barn which was literally a mind boggling round barn, and second was Pops, home to over 500 varieties of soda pops, with flavours including Monster Mucus, Lemon Meringue Pie, Rocket Piss and Peanut Butter & Jelly - all purchased to accompany us on the road. We had breakfast and hit the road.
Passing through Oklahoma City we focused on staying on track, rather than take in all that was around us. On the way out we pulled over to the side of a lake for a bit of a leg stretch and group photos, interrupting a serious bird watching session in the process. Marc took this opportunity to earn himself a LAD point by sticking his big toe into the mouth of a rotten fish (maggots included) - well played Marc!
There is nothing more unnatural than blasting Bangarang by Skrillex through the speakers while driving through the land of the outlaws. Mum, just in case you're unsure what this song sounds like, check the link below... you'll love it!

As we drove through Elk City we were disappointed at the lack of elk available to see - absolutely gutted, but we got over it pretty quickly. We reached the Texas state line; Chris parked up what seemed like miles away and we got some pictures taken.
As we drove through Texas, two things sprung to mind. Firstly, we realised that the Texas section of our trip was extremely quiet. Secondly, we were extremely low on petrol; or should i say gas. You'd think that the more southern you were state-wise, the more dangerous it's likely to be... this was not the case. Despite the intimidating people in Texas, they were actually the friendliest we've met so far.
We made it to Amarillo! That's right Mother Road; the score is tie. We soldiered on and defeated you once again. And we even had time to stop off at the Museum of Barbed Wire down the road, just because we could.
The Big Texan Steak Ranch... We came, we ate, we conquered! Having watched Man vs Food, we saw Adam (the challenger) complete the challenge of consuming a 72oz steak (plus sides). Speaking to our legendary waiter Nathan about Adam doing the challenge, he stated: "Adam was just stuffing it down, dipping it in blue cheese sauce and swallowing it. I thought he was auditioning for a porn movie." - what a legend! Being realistic, we decided to challenge each other for a LAD point by eating the following:
36oz Steak
2 Side Dishes
Bread Roll
Spicy Jalapeño
We all managed it and some of us even squeezed an ice cream into what little space was left in our stomachs. Some of us didn't... *cough* *vagina* *cough* - not mentioning any names, of course.
We crawled towards our motel, stripped off and cuddled in the foetal position, comforting one another through this very tough and uncomfortable time. On the upper hand, the steak was bloody good.
We're almost halfway through Route 66 - 4 states down, 5 to go!
Goodnight x
