After a much deserved rest, a late rise was very much what we needed considering it took us until 3am to get to sleep due to the lack of air conditioning in the room. Very much like James, Nick was celebrating his birthday on this road trip. Once we had dragged ourselves out of bed we headed back to the Tiger Bar (where we had dinner last night) and had breakfast, playing pool while we waited for our food.

Heading back to the room to grab anything we needed for our afternoon in Yosemite, we made our way to the national park. Naturally on Nick's birthday, like every year, it rained... in fact it poured. We were not excited to get out of the car with the weather the way it was. However, as we approached our destination at the beginning of the trail to Dog Lake, the rain had stopped temporarily and we made our way towards the lake. After trekking 1.3 miles up a mountain, we finally got to Dog Lake, which was beautiful. We walked round to a little bay and spent about 15 minutes hanging about before making our way back. In the distance there was thunder and lightning, which meant we needed to get a move on. After a 20-30 minute walk down the same trail, we made it back to the car just as the downpour hit us. Thank god, the weather was on our side.
None of us were able to spot a bear, and so a LAD point was not achieved; however, we did spot a number of deer and chipmunks along the way!

This meant that we missed out on going for a swim or kayak in June Lake; we'll possibly attempt it tomorrow, but with a long drive to Death Valley National Park, we may have to sacrifice the swim to make our journey on time.

In the mean time it's time to get ready for dinner and have some birthday drinks...

Just got in and we had a lot of drinks, listened to a lot of music and played some pool. For your information, the boys have spent the whole trip slagging off country music, but it seems it's growing on Chris as he chose two songs by Keith Urban and Brad Paisley tonight - get in Christipapa!

Got in... pissed... bummed Chris... bed time...
