Friday 19th July Train trip with 3 changes ( train travel for beginners- there are above and below ground trains- buy tickets different places.) Coffee in Kew- wet and bit cold so headed for the glass houses built mid 1850’s. Plant displays fabulous- added bonus of glass sculpture exhibition by Dale Chihuly. Thursday 18th July- walked to Sloane Square after coffee at our fav deli around the corner- Eddy and Patsy couldn’t catch up -so we shopped instead. We had tickets for “Book of Mormon” at Prince of Wales Theatre - great show - we had “ an eater” sitting in front - who accidentally tipped her tray of salad over the couple in front. Wednesday 17th July- tried the Hop on/Hop off again - to Marble Arch - then walked across Hyde Park to Kensington Gardens. Passed a cute cottage -“ Magazine Cottage” then on to the Hyde Park lake. Over to Kensington Gardens - Albert’s Memorial, a beautiful flower walk ( where we saw the cutest squirrel) and - voila- Kensington Palace. Tuesday 16th July- A glorious day - quite warm. Headed to Victoria Station to catch Hop on bus. Run very frequently - hopped off at Marble Arch- walked down Oxford St- in and out of boutiques. Checked out Selfridges- ( 1909) looks great. Then another tea and scones in a cute mews court. ( necklace bought) On to Regent St- Libertys store - still beautiful (1875) - Lyn bought a scarf). Monday 15th July- We checked out tube stops etc to get in to city - then realised we could walk it in about 20 minutes- so we set off for the Changing of the Guard at Buckingham Palace. Passed the Palace Mews- then to the Palace. Found a great spot ( thousands of tourists) up on the Queen Victoria Memorial -and thoroughly enjoyed the music and colour of the Changing of the Guards.
