So tom was breathalised in entering...
.Augusta ticks no boxes...
Augusta itself was the first place ships arrived in Western Australia.1830......and these settlers struggled....it's where the Indian Ocean and southern ocean meet..it's mean wild seas....and while we were there we git a taste of the bad winds and bleakness those settlers faced.....after ten years those settlers left.....Augusta was empty...late in the 1930's and 1940's the government did free immigration here....clearly a lot have left....its quite cut off....thick Bush to north west, east...sea to south....
It's like going back to the 1960's..there's a video hire shop.....videos???
It had most shops shut..couple of cafes....a great historical museum though following those past settlers and so many shipwrecks in this dangerous mixing of oceans....
We visited the cape Leuwin lighthouse that helped foil shipwrecks....amazing life those lighthouse men and families lived....enjoyed our visit...love the history aspect...
The hotel we stayed st was the Augusta hotel...stuck in the 1960's....we had to laugh at the room or we'd cry!....put it this way..think this will go down as clearly the worst place we stayed....we don't mind basic we can easily do very basic but this was....well I won't go on.....
.but hey....every cloud has a silver lining........the hotel(!!!!)... had a primeval bar fir men........and another bar...this bar was yet again stuck in the 1960's...original carpet maybe?....but I swear I had the most amazing curry I've had for years....it was a lamb chop curry.....the night before s meal was pretty darn good too........in fact we loved this old fashioned Aussie bar....the food was the saving grace of Augusta....
Strange place though....
