Sun 01/06/14 Lovely scenic drive winding through Karri Tree forest to Pemberton; found a sign to "Warren Winery - Specialising in Premium Aged wines" - took a snap for Wazza. Enjoyed lunch at The Millhouse Cafe before chatting with an extremely helpful lady, "Leanne", at the tourist information centre, then headed out to find The Gloucester Tree and take on the challenge of climbing it - a 65mt tall Karri tree that was once used as a fire lookout. We had every intention of letting the kids climb to the top with us, but decided against it once we saw the gap size between the steel reo rungs that are hammered into the tree. Kiddies probably would have been fine, but it's "climb at your own risk", no safety net and their size would easily fit straight through the gaps if they slipped. Thus, they were only allowed to climb up 20mts or so, then (very disgruntled - especially Brodie) they had to come back down and sit patiently at the base while Mikey and I made our way to the top. Took us approx. 7-10 mins to climb up all the way, 5 mins to catch our breath, enjoy the view and take some snaps and the same again to come back down...the rungs playing tricks on your eyes with the depth perception when stepping down. Was Great Fun...Loved it!...Returned to the info centre to collect our official climbing certificates and then began the drive to our next camping stop in the Margaret River Region.
