Thu 31/07/14 150kms to Lake Argyle today. On the way we stopped in at the Zebra Rock Gallery in Kununurra. The striations and colour variance in tne rock are awesome. Bought a lovely vase for K's bday prezz, then headed out to the lake to feed some bread to the resident catfish. Mon 28/07/14 Left Mable Downs Station bright and early for our 450km drive to El Questro Station, approx 70 kms south-west of Kununurra or 50kms south-west of Wyndham. Gibb River Road was bitumen at this end, but we still had 16kms of extremely corrugated dirt track and 3 river crossings - Moonshine Creek, Amelia Creek and Pentecost River - to get into the station ... stopped at the start of track to deflate tyres and mask up vents in preparation. Fri 25/07/14 Travelled approx. 400kms to Mable Downs Station today. Passed through Halls Creek where we fuelled up, lunched and checked out the Visitor Centre. Decided not to drive out to see the Wolfe Creek Meterorite Crater; 135kms each way on corrugated dirt track makes for slow goin' ... so not enough time. Mon 21/07/14 250kms to Fitzroy Crossing today. Landscape more open plains and paddocks than expected. Fitzroy is a 'dry' town, no take-away booze, thus the town wateringholes were well patronised by the locals, especially on pay day. As advised by fellow travellers, we drove past town to stay at The Fitzroy River Lodge on the outskirts. Thu 17/07/14 Anne & Locky next door had the kids skipping all morning while we packed up the van to move on. Just when all 6 kids managed to synchronise their jumping it was time to go. Katy, Sophie & Jasmine leave on Sunday on a trek similar to ours, so we hope to cross paths again somewhere across the Kimberley; Bye for now girls! Drive to Derby only 220kms.
