Sun 01/06/14 Drove through the town of Cowaramup on our way to Taunton Farm, which is our base for touring the Margaret River Region. True to its name the town is filled from one end to the other with cow statues - the kids were highly amused by this and it would be fair to say that during a lengthy photo shoot they posed with almost every cow in town! (only a third of snaps made it into the blog album, much to the disgust of the LB&A). We arrived at camp around 4pm and managed a daylight setup, which was nice for a change. Our site backed directly onto the farm animals paddock fence and we soon met "Bullet", a huge 7y/o black pig. We quickly learnt he was not the "patting" type of pig after he tried to bite us on several occasions. The kids and Michael became convinced that Bullet liked their company and chit chats, as he hung aound our van and snorted and squealed in repsonse to their attentions - of course it may also have been the fruit and veg left overs they were feeding him. "Bullet" or "Bully Bully" (as Daddy's pig song refers to him) came to be mentioned in just about EVERY single subject discussed by the 3 sillies and their even sillier father. Eg " Bullet told me he loves marshmallows" " Bullet said he wants a turn sleeping in the van" " Bullet said his farts are better than yours" "Bullet thinks the wineries are boring and wants us to play on the jumping pillow with him" etc etc etc. Bullet was introduced to Piggy, Pony and Pooh Bear, and apparently he is planning to visit us in Broome - I hope people can appreciate the level of saturation I speak of, which is indicated by the fact that the pig has managed to have a whole paragraph dedicated to him - certainly got our "farm stay" monies worth out of the pig! Taunton is a working cattle farm that operates a caravan park at the front of their property. Great playground for the kids, a huge big barn for a camp kitchen, complete with pot belly fireplace and a pit fire outside. Lucerne hay was provided at 5pm every evening for the kids to feed the animals - Two enormous bulls (T-Bone & Peanut), a cow & calf (Maisy and Fondi), two donkeys (Cara and Eddie), two goats (Louise & Thelma), one sheep (Lee -Lee), Alfred the chicken and of course, Bullet. Lukas had to refine his feeding technique after managing to get his hand "sucked into T-Bone's mouth"! Occasionally the breeze would bring wafts of cow patts and other farm animal odours and the kids would declare " oh that ranks!", which is apparently the current day schoolyard expression for "stinks", and Michael has happily joined in the daily "you rank!" "no, you rank!" jibes.
