Tue 29/04/14 Went for a drive to Hahndorf today. 18oC and bit windy but rain stayed away for the most part. Enjoyed lunch at The German Arms Hotel. Kids all had Schnitzel, while Michael and I tried some traditional German fare - Chicken Krakau & Trio Wurst und Sauerkraut - yummo! The village looked beautiful with its autumn colours and falling leaves. The information centre adjoined an enjoyable art, crafts and historical display. Visited Fruchocs, Udder Delights Cellar Door, Rock Bare Cellar Door, German Folk Handcrafts, Coco Marie Natural Skin Care Products. At the Puppet Shop the kids all purchased knitted mouse hand puppets made by a local lady. They have named them Red Foo (L), Scatters (B) and Nibbles (A) and are having great fun with them. Took in an oil painting display, then after an ice cream we headed to "Cedars", famous local artist Hans Heysen's sculpture garden, house and studio. It was quite interesting to see all his "tools of the trade" on display in the studio; Lukas was quite sceptical that someone could create the drawings exhibited using the sticks of charcoal that were on display. Back to the van just before more strong winds and rain hit - had to pack up the gazebo in the rain to save it blowing away - not so fun.....
(unfortunately our portable hard drive crashed, so only a handful of our Hahndorf photos were salvageable).
