Well luckily the snow hadn't settled and we were able to continue our cave explorations this morning - firstly to go and see some cave creatures and learn about how they have managed to survive in these caves. The olm (Proteus anguinus) seems to be the most famous - also described as the cave salamander - and it was fascinating to see it but we were not queueing up to buy any of the cuddly teddy versions of this human/fish/lizard creature - its's not really the most appealing cuddly toy!
So then we headed up to Predjama Castle - a castle built into a cave and apparently the largest Castle built into a cave in the world but we are starting to get sceptical of these claims - everywhere we go is the largest/oldest/tallest/most something so we weren't overly excited but actually visiting this castle was very cool! We have "done" lots of castles but this was different and the excellent audio guide really made us understand what it would have been like to live in the castle (or the cave behind) and to escape through the secret cave tunnels when you were attacked. Definitely worth a visit!
So then we decided to head to Lake Bled, with lots of provisional plans for outdoor activities only to arrive to a weather warning - 100km/h winds - oh, and yes it's still freezing! Nonetheless we wrapped up warm and headed out to take a walk around the stunning lake and note all the places that we will need to return to when it warms up!
