We left behind our little piece of paradise on Pag early this morning and headed for the ferry and then North into Slovenia looking for somewhere to spend our last few Kuna on the way and resorting to the "restaurant of last resort". It was freezing cold and pouring with rain - the weather forecast that had looked unbelievable as we sat on the beach yesterday appeared to be true - the temperature had dropped over 10 degrees over night and there appeared to be the possibility of flooding!
So we headed back to Postojna to go see the caves that we had decided to skip earlier in the trip when it was too sunny to be underground.... The largest cave system in Slovenia and apparently the most visited in the world and it certainly seemed very popular. We managed to get a space on the last tour of the day and after doing the days learning at the Expo first we boarded our train for a 2 km ride into the centre of the caves.... very bizarre! We left the train then to walk a further 1.5km through the caves on foot wandering the huge caves and viewing the amazing features created over thousands of years whilst comparing the caves to those in Nerja and being impressed at how the children had retained some of the geography knowledge from the last cave trip!
So then back on the train and out into the outside world to find it was snowing! Lots of snow. I know it's only April and this is not unheard of but as we were on the beach yesterday it was certainly a little bizarre so we headed back to shelter in Bob and hope we don't have to use those snow chains tomorrow!
