Well the shell is aquired and we now await the legs. A 2011 Mazda BT-50 to tote our shell. We are collecting bits and pieces that will be needed for the journey. So Far:
- 2 x wine glasses preserved in the box for much needed protection.
- A box of wooden hangers to house the few pieces of wardrobe that will be used for special outings i.e. a show in Sydney or Melbourne. Maybe even the RSL in Cootamundra. I hear the entertainment there is second to none.
- Also some rope, 2 x generators (named G1 & G2). A Baby Q (Weber) named Basil and an LED head lamp for boy jobs at night, like possum fighting and toad scaring.
The shell is currently located in Gympie and when the BT-50 is finally released (it's worth waiting for) so they tell us, we will venture down to Gympie from Mackay to tote our shell home. This will be a learning curve and include a few (maybe overnight) stays, familiarising ourselves with our new shell. Learning the turning circle and reversing skills needed for the wilderness. Hopefully we will not have to pass by too many places we intended stopping but couldn't manage to find a place to turn around. Depending on the navigator we could end up in Perth with one of us screaming I told you to get in the left lane or just the GSP saying wrong way go back.
Then the task of outfitting the shell. Apparently, blondes need more water, so we will be fitting extra water tanks, solar power to heat the extra water and then on to the serious items of light weight plates, hair dryers, and toiletries. The challenge of how many pairs of shoes can you fit into the cupboard at the bottom of the bed. Then how many towels and blankets will be needed to protect the wine bottles under the bed.
Wings for Basil were purchased at the weekend, along with a new cover. The original blew off the balcony never to be seen again. Oh, Basil doesn't fly, his wings are for placing the egg flip, paper plates and wine glass whilst preparing a gourmet meal in his fabulous tummy.
We are still to decide where the shell wil be parked while we prepare it for the first trek to Airlie Beach for Christmas. Watch this site for future adventures.
