After catching a couple of public buses from KL and ataxi we finally arrived at our hostel in China Town in Melaka. The hostel was really nice and in a great location.
We headed out for a walk around the old part of the town but after a couple of hours the heat had got to us and we all ended up in the Geographers Cafe for beers and food. Quite a few drinks later we decided to go and find a karaoke bar, which after walking across town we found. The bar was very strange and was basically a place for men to go and pick up 'working' women. They allowed us in though as we were buying alcohol, but after singing 3 songs and not buying any more alcohol they would not put any more requests on for us! So we left and after all those drinks there was only 1 place we could head to - McDonalds!
The following morning I treated myself to a lie in before having breakfast, going for a walk and having a look at the shops. Malaysian clothes are designed for tiny people and I was far too large for them so could not fit into anything, at least it ended up saving me money as I could not buy anything!
Kelly-Anne and I then headed to the river and went on a river cruise to see the sights as it was too hot to walk. On the way back our boat broke down though and just when we were contemplaiting jumping ship I saw the biggest lizard ever get out the water and decided there was no way I would be getting into the water. Luckily the driver managed to fix the boat so we didnt have to abandon ship!
After some lunch we paid for a bike tour of Melaka, the bike is decorated with lots of flowers and some of them even play music! Our bloke looked really old and we felt quite sorry for him having to ride the bike and show us around.
Our next stop was the bird nest soup museum. It was quite interesting and at the end Kelly-Anne, Lee and I brought a bowl of the soup to try. It did not really taste of anything and was clear, but had a lumpy texture to it. I just had to try not to think about what I was eating. It is meant to have healing powers! So as I am feeling a bit under the weather I will be interested to see what healing powers it actually has!
