After breakfast we caught a bus to the Cameron Highlands, which should have only taken 4 hours, but because of heavy traffic was delayed by a further 3 hours. Our hotel was very basic but clean and it was noticably cooler in the highlands, I even needed a cardigan in the evening. It made a nice change to feel cool for a change!
As we had hardly eaten all day we all decided to head to an Indian restaurant in the town we were staying in. We were so hungry we brought street food on route (little Indian snacks) and then tucked into a curry and the biggest nann bread I think I have ever had! It was yummy and needed after hardly eating all day!
The following day we were up early for our included trip. We were picked up in 2 4x4's and after about an hours drive we went off roading, up the side of a steep slope to the jungle. From here we began our 3 hour trek into the jungle. I really enjoyed the trek and it felt great to be doing some exercise! We had to climb up and down where sections of bridges had collapsed (which was hard work but rewarding). When we reached our furthest point we saw 2 Rafflesia (the worlds largest flower). Our guide also took us to see panther footprints in the jungle before cutting down some bamboo and letting us drink the water from it. The water actually tasted better than most bottled water you can buy. After getting back to our vehicles we headed to a local aboriginal village where they gave us a blowpipe hunting demonstration before letting us have a go. I managed to hit the target on both goes! After grabbing some lunch at an Indian restaurant we headed to a tea plantation where we were shown round the factory before heading into the plantation to look at the tea bushes. Followed by a quick stop at a strawberry farm where where we had strawberry milkshakes and strawberrys and icecream! The organised trip was great fun and the guides were brilliant! We got everywhere nice and quick as everytime there was a queue of traffic they would just overtake the whole lot. We only had a couple of near misses on bends where busses were coming the over way!
