Today we left Moab to head to Bryce Canyon National Park. We drove through more desert through the San Rafael region. It was pretty but also pretty desolate. Near Bryce we checked in to Ruby's Inn, which is basically a compound near the park with everything you would need from a high end hotel to tent sites. There were restaurants and stores and a post office too. We checked in for our stay at one of the campgrounds tipis! Because why stay in a tent when you can kick it in a tipi (or teepee, if you prefer)? Bryce was much more packed with visitors than Arches, possibly because of its proximity to Vegas, and also because it was considerably smaller. We did one hike and basically drove to the overlooks to see the canyon below. Bryce's canyon is eroded rock that has formed into shapes known as "hoodoos." It was amazing. It didn't seem quite real until we went for a hike a sunset down into the canyon and got a closer look. The pictures from down in the canyon hopefully show how incredible the colors and the shapes are, and again, we were pretty much by ourselves for an extended period of time.Apparently, we were the only ones that read the suggestion to spend time out exposed to the sun in the desert in the morning and evening.
