Ben and Marie's American Road Trip
Today, we got a ferry to the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island, where the immigration station is located. The journey to New York was becoming some what of a necessity by now, we knew where we were going when we got off the train, well, I did anyway. We had to get the New York tube today though for the first time, and that was similar to the London one, so it was relatively straightforward. We had to go across town to South Ferry, right on the docks where battery park was, as that's where we would be catching the ferry. The day was a grey one, but it was colder by the sea, especially on the ferry and on the island. We went through security before catching the ferry and the weather made it a little choppy, and on the way back I'm pretty sure marie did go a nice shade of green. The ferry was a short journey, but lady liberty could be seen far better from the island, you can even go into the crown and even the torch. We walked right the way round the statue island and then took some photos and selfies and caught the ferry back to New York. Once we were there, we took the tube back to broadway so we could go to the Hard Rock Cafe for dinner. The place was huge, it was like dining in a cinema with the big screen at the front. The tables were all arranged in stages around the edge like an old school American jazz bar. The food was great, we ordered nachos to start and they plate was nearly as wide as the table we were sat on. I then had a pulled chicken burger and Marie had some chicken mac and cheese. It's the most full I've been in America so far, we were struggling to walk back to the station. All washed down with a beer and a hurricane cocktail, both with souvenir glasses to take home. More space needed. On the walk back we got invited to the local gentlemen's club by a guy who called himself Wolf, they also serve sushi apparently. We politely declined and made our way back to the station where we caught the train back to Metuchen, which was near our hotel. Marie suggested we get on the express train back, so we swapped trains to then realise the express train didn't stop at Metuchen, so tried to swap back, but our train had left, so we had to sit around waiting 20 minutes for another one, thanks Marie. We hadn't arranged a place to stay that night as we may have been leaving for Philadelphia, but we checked back in to our hotel again to save the late night drive. Off to Philadelphia tomorrow.
