An American guy at the hostel had told us about a good place to go cliff jumping… and as you have probably gathered…. We love jumping off stuff! The place was a canyon which has been filled with water and has lots of cliffs to jump off. Ben left the camera at the hostel on charge by accident so we have no photos from it unfortunately, just one that Tim got on his phone.
It was a pain in the arse to get there… because local Tuk Tuk drivers don't really know about it…. And we were the only ones there so we don't think many people do actually go there. The guy at the hostel showed us on a map where it was, so we directed the driver there. With the language barrier it was really hard, and the driver didn't really listen. Tim sat in the front to tell him where to go but he was saying he knew a different way to get there. Eventually he did get us there, just went a really long way about it!
On arrival we didn't really know which bit to jump off, and how deep the water was, but sort of worked it out. There was a really high cliff and we could sort of see where you could climb back up and where people may have walked before, leaving a track in the mud/clay. The driver pointed to a tall tree and said the water is as deep as that so we took his word for it. As we got to the top and looked down it then became clear how high it was… hard to judge the measurement but was a lot higher than the one in Vietnam.
We were nervous about doing it for once, but thought the more we think about it the worse it's going to be. Suddenly Tim just went for it, and as he splashed in the water, came back up and screamed about how good it was, Lloyd then Ben jumped too. You fall for quite a bit and it was so much fun. The girls had come with us and they all did it too and loved it. We stayed there for a bit swimming and jumping and sunbathing. Kelly cut her foot a bit on a jagged rock but Ben came to the rescue and had his first aid kit with him…. Which is the first time we've properly needed it. He cleaned out the cut, used tweezers to get the sharp bit of rock out, then plastered it up. She will live!
Afterwards we all went for a nice lunch at a restaurant overlooking the canyon. Then we headed back to the hostel in the Tuk Tuk which dropped us three off, then took the girls to Tiger Kingdom so they could experience what we did.
We chilled at the hostel for a bit before heading to the train station to see Ben off. He's going home for 5 weeks to earn some more money at work and see his family, girlfriend etc. Was sad saying bye to him as the train left and he will be missed loads while he is away…. But he will be back for New Zealand. Tim and Lloyd booked the train to Bangkok for in a few days' time whilst there.
That night we went out for a nice post meal for one of the girls friends , Becky's, birthday. There were 6 of us and we all had a really nice meal, including a few bottles of sparkling wine. It worked out to be £45 for all of us, and that was expensive for Thailand, it's so cheap here! We then headed to a few bars to celebrate Becky's birthday. Tim and Lloyd are going to a place a bit further north called Pai tomorrow whilst the girls stay in Chiang Mai.
