We have been looking forward to Koh Phi Phi as we knew we were going to be reunited with basically everyone we were with on Koh Panghan and other various places, we also had a 's*** shirt night' to look forward to a few days later for Kellys birthday. Rick and Sam had already checked into a 4 bed room in our hostel so after eventually finding it we checked in too. We have such a laugh with these two and we knew this was going to be a beaut and messy week!
We're not going to do this blog day by day as it kind of all merges into one. Every night consisted of going to a bucket stall to get a Strawberry Daiquiri bucket or a 'Strawberry Daco' as we decided to nick name them! The buckets are great, they cost 150Baht (3 quid), taste really nice and also they are really strong. After one of them we were all drunk, then after two you are well and truly pissed. After getting the first bucket we would always go to the beach where they have a fire show. This fire show was so much better than the one in Koh Tao, they had kids as young as 5 or 6 doing it, they were that good we even tipped them on the first night. After the fire show we would walk down the beach a bit to the main bar where everyone goes to party on the beach. This is where we would normally finish our second 'Daco' and maybe get a Chang beer just to have something to keep our hands busy!
That was generally the routine for the first three nights although Tim and Sam stayed in the second night. On the third night however we did stop off in the Reggae Bar where they have a boxing ring, where you can volunteer to box another volunteer. Tim and Rick were up for it, Lloyd couldn't obviously because of the shoulder injury. In the end Tim was the only one that got around to fighting. Just as we turned up there was a bloke being put on a stretcher off the ring, turned out he had broken his leg in the fight before. This was a bit worrying but Tim's fight didn't have kicking so it was a bit of a relief! Tim got given all the gear, shorts, helmet and gloves then he got matched up against a Russian bloke who was bigger than him but more importantly he was sober, and Tim most certainly was not. The first round Tim won hands down, and even knocked him down, but in the next rounds fitness and drunkness began to tell and the Russian won on points. But it was a good fight and Tim got a free bucket just for getting in the ring. Later that night we watched the first leg of the Chelsea semi-final, Lloyd was the only one to make it until the end even though he couldn't remember anything of the game in the morning except the score.
The fourth day we actually got round to doing something during the day. Us two and Rick went on an all-day boat trip around the smaller islands around Phi Phi. First we were taken to Bamboo island, it was a beautiful beach but at 11am we were all still very hangover so we took our rice and fruit which was included in the trip went and found some shade and just lay there for an hour trying to recover. Feeling a little bit better we got back on the boat and was taken to our first snorkelling site. The water was crystal clear and there were thousands of fish, Rick took his underwater 'Go Pro' camera so got some good underwater pics! Next we were taken to Monkey Island, named ironically because there are loads of monkeys on the beach, we got a few pics but daren't go near them, as one of them bit Georgie a couple of weeks ago and she had to have all her rabies jabs and we didn't fancy that! After that it was another snorkelling session before being taken to Maya Bay, this is the beach that was used in the Leonardo Di'caprio film 'The Beach', it is a beautiful beach but it is full of people which ruins it a bit, apparently before the film it was deserted but now it is rammed! After that we were taken to another place where we can't remember the name of and did some more snorkelling, this is where we saw a shark, well we think it was a shark, it was massive and grey and shark shaped but we can't be sure as the water wasn't as clear at this site and we only saw it for a split second, it was a bit scary though! We were then supposed to be taken to a place to watch the sunset but he didn't quite wait there long enough for the sun to set, but we were ready to get back now anyway.
While we were on the boat trip, Kelly, Georgie and Charlotte had arrived and it was Kellys birthday. To celebrate we all went to the only place on the island to buy a s*** shirt, except Rick and Sam who already had one from full moon, the shirts were terrible but it was funny. That night we all got a 'Daco' and went back to the girls dorm where there was a big group of people and we played 'Ring of Fire' a game that is designed to get you drunk, not that a Strawberry Daco isn't enough. Later on we headed to the beach where we met everyone else we knew on the island, Clara, Hannah, Alex and Carly and partied till the early hours.
Surprise, surprise the last day we spent the majority of in bed. Before it came to around half 9 and Lloyd and Tim went to get a round of 4 Dacos for us Rick and Sam, Alex and Carly had also joined us at our hostel, we planned to chill in the hostel lobby drinking before heading to the beach a bit later. The Strawberry Daco lady was about a 7-8 minute walk away, and we were watching all of the lighting in the sky thinking it looked really cool. It's really weird, fills up the whole sky but doesn't make any thunder, not at the start anyway. About a quarter of the way back the thunder started, and we had by then learnt that when the thunder starts you have a minute or so until it absolutely buckets it down, it then started spitting so we picked up the pace, then it started raining so we really picked up the pace, we jumped inside the hostel lobby and that was it the last bolt of thunder and the heavens really opened but we got there pretty much dry and more importantly the buckets didn't get watered down. The rain is something else, its more powerful than most of the showers we have had this whole trip, and the thunder is deafening. It was amazing really, we were all fascinated by it, especially as the road outside the hostel started to flood, by the end the road was basically an ankle deep river!
The storms normally only last half hour or so but this one went on for ages and the only thing near us was a tattoo parlour so it was dangerous as we neared the end of our first Daco, we were then all pissed and talk was getting on to 'Yeah I'll get one' and 'shall we all get the same tattoo to remind us all of how good Phi Phi has been'. Then after a lot of 'ahhhhhh I don't know's all 6 of us agreed to get a small Strawberry in honour of the Strawberry Daiquiri Buckets tattooed on our foot in the traditional Thai way with bamboo. We're not going to lie it bloody hurts. The two girls got it tattooed behind there ear which is obviously so stupid but we convinced them in our drunk state that it was a good idea. By this time we had been joined by Clara and Hannah too, they were the sensible ones and objected to the tattoos which we thought was fair enough. By the time we had all finished the storm had stopped and we all headed to the beach to get our second bucket and partied the night away once again. The end of that night brought us the funniest moment of the whole trip but this is a parent friendly blog so we will have to leave that to your imaginations!
