We had heard about an amazing waterfall called Kuang Si, so got up early for breakfast so we could have a good few hours there before our bus to Thailand in the evening. Whilst waiting for breakfast two girls and two guys said they were going too, so we all shared a Tuk Tuk.
At the entrance to the waterfall there was a small bear sanctuary with five rescue Sun Bears in. They were all doing different things… running about, eating or just chilling on the climbing frames they had. We watched them for a bit before walking further up the track to the water.
The place was beautiful. First of all there was a few lagoons with really blue clear water, and a smallish waterfall you could jump straight off. We put our stuff down and jumped into the water… it was pretty cold but instantly cured our hangovers. After doing this a few times we made our way up to the main waterfall. A girl from Ipswich we met the night before had said how amazing it was, and she wasn't wrong! She has been travelling 18 months and said it is the best one she has ever seen. We got our photos taken in the t-shirts Slug had got us and admired the size and beauty of the waterfall. Just standing next to it you could feel the power of the water as it created a nice wind.
We could see the waterfall started much further up, with water falling from much higher points, so we trekked up a steep rocky path to get to the top. It was very tiring but when we got there it was very much worth it. There were lots of pools of water which led over the edge and created the waterfall. Whilst up there we bumped into a guy who told us you can climb off the track and through the pools and rocks, to actually get inside the waterfall and be behind the water… obviously we weren't going to miss that opportunity.
Unfortunately we couldn't get any pics inside because of how wet we got and the camera would have been ruined…. But we all agree it was one of the most fun days we have had so far. It was very easy to climb through most of the time, with sometimes just having to take a bit more care and go slower. The rocks weren't slippery at all, even though water was rushing over them… and at times we were climbing directly up parts of the waterfall and through knee deep lagoons. We got through the waterfall and found some caves behind it… and it was great being able to sit inside and watch the water dropping outside. Some of the views are indescribable and even if we got photos it wouldn't do it justice.
We made our way back down, had some lunch, then met back up with the others before all getting back in the Tuk Tuk to go to the hostel. When we got back we got ready before getting picked up at 5pm to leave for Chiang Mai, Thailand. This bus journey was going to be our longest yet…12 hours to the border, then a further 6 hours from there! This is the worst bit about travelling, but all part of it! Next stop Thailand!!!!!!
