Today we have our trip booked for Kong Lor caves with Pat and Jen - these caves are a set of tunnels which go under a mountain for 7.5km. So we woke up grabbed our free breakfast and jumped in the mini van - the drive to the caves took 3 hours and was another twisty bumpy road with amazing views. A couple of hours in the driver stops at a view point which looked out over 'the limestone forest' which is just miles of limestone rock formations (sadly the pictures I took do it no justice to how amazing the view was.) A few pics and we were back on the road bumping along just watching l the mountains and farm land pass us by! We finally arrived grabbed our entry ticket and walked through a small woods to get to the cave - we then got our boat ticket and headed off toward the cave mouth and got in our bot - this was another engine powered canoe but the drivers were amazing! It didn't take long for all the light to disappear so head torches were a must. Inside is amazing as the cave changes shape every second from shallow water where the driver pushes, to wide deep rivers, low car ceilings that nearly touch your head to parts higher than a cathedral! As I said before the drivers are amazing as they navigate the deepest parts of water with large jagged rocks that they avoid with ease. Not too far in we stopped and got off our boat to walk along the stalactite and stalagmite forest, which was pretty cool as they had wired in some lights to really show the formations. A short walk around and the boat met us the other end, now was for the long part of the trip which leads you out the other side of the cave. While bouncing along you turn a corner and can see the light from the other side, however to get out you need to push the boat up a small waterfall/rapids which was quite fun! Then as you jump back in, eyes now fully adjusted to the dark, you swing out if the cave to an amazing jungle river. Again pictures and words can't describe how intense the colour was as you left the cave add that to the amazing scenery made leaving the cave just incredible!
A short wiz along the water and you arrive at a small village where we grabbed a drink - after that it was back in the boat for the return trip. Going from the bright light and sun back into the cave took some adjusting again as you really couldn't see a thing, even with the torches! Soon we were back at the entrance and heading back to the mini van for another 3 hours on the bumpy roads. On our way back we stopped at the bus station to find out about our next bus ticket - 4000islands. Unfortunately the bloke at the desk was as useful as a chocolate teapot, but we did find out there was a 15 hour overnight bus which would either be a local bus (no air con, over filled with motorbikes on the roof), a VIP coach or a sleeper? So it's a bit of a lucky dip! So tomorrow we will proberly chill out until check out time and then grab some lunch and head to the station at 4pm. Tonight were all shattered so grabbed some food and sat a talked about where we live before headed to bed!
