Leaving our massive pyramid hotel, we start the drive to Munich, Germany!
(Interlude: see other post for concentration camp).
Quite a big driving day, but one of our service stops is at the lake where Maria and Captain Von trapp got married!!! Both in real life and the movie:) it's a stunning landscape and so sad they had to leave during the war. We eat at a crazily, huge restaurant with amazon panoramic views, and have one of the better driving lunches. I had carbonara and Troy had a massive bagel/burger thing, with lots of veggies on the side. I stole these:). It's then back on the bus and only a few hours to Munich! We arrive at our hotel around 5, and am glad to see that it's another nice one! We have the regular 45mins to get freshened up, before heading into town. It looks like a fun city to explore, but sadly we have no time on this trip:( we walk to the famous Hofbräuhaus beer hall. It's a cool place. Huge wooden tables, low hanging ceiling and lights, hustle and bustle! We manage somehow to get tables all near each other (generally by squeezing others off) and the night begins! They only serve 3 beers because of the strict regulations on "beer purity" German beer halls hold. No beer can be preserved or have preservatives in the mixture. This means, that the beer doesn't last long, so the beer halls only have a select few to better manage stock. As long as you don't drink too much and make yourself sick, and drink water, you won't likely get a hangover. Very cool. I choose the "original" and Troy tries the dark "dunkle" beer. We have have been advices to generously tip our waiter on the first order, to encourage them to return to our table, which we did, but boy are they still grumpy! We continually gave tips but he's still a hassle to order from! For our next round, we both had the wheat beer. This was really nice at first, but 1Lt of it is just too much:( you'd have a triumphant mouth fall, look back at your stein, and it hasn't gone down at all! This one defiantly took me a good hour to finish I'd say. I then had a final original as Troy had already had one an was onto another dunkle, and as Eliott had tried to match every drink Troy had had, it was time to go home! An amusing cab ride with Eliott, Tals and wriggles, saw us safely in bed:) loving Germany!
