Today was SO fun. We turn up at Jungle school, played silly games with all the kids to break time (1 hour). Then we were told by Nicky that we were now leaving and being taken to the festival at the temple as a treat! We were all rounded up around a thai buffet and told to dig in and I had THE most delicious thai salad and noodles (I possibly like thai food again now) for free!!!
On the way to get my second helping I tried to strike up a conversation with a few old thai ladies, error on my part, by pointing to the food then my tummy and saying 'aroi macmaw' with a big smile on my face. Clearly this leads them to believe I can speak Thai which couldn't be more far from the truth...they ask me how I am...which I can answer and ask them back. They then looked SO pleased that they burst into a bubble of thai with lots of head nodding and gesticulation whilst I'm stood there bemused as have absolutely no flipping idea what the heck they are saying. Meanwhile, Nicky and Kwan (thai girls who work for Teacha) are watching the situation evolve and absolutely wetting themselves at my reaction. I say 'Mai khao jai'..I don't understand, they all laugh and I can finally get my well earned second portion of food. I am NOT going to pretend that I can speak thai again any time soon.
After this we were taken to give a donation to the temple and make a wish in front of one of the monks, turns out he likes farang and wants a photo with us and then we get to follow him into the temple where he blesses a bracelet to bring good luck and keep us safe. He then does a Buddhist prayer and throws water on us, we were all a little suprised, Kylie even screamed.
We were then taken back to Teacha, where we did our final test and had to wait patiently whilst everyone had a meeting with Dalton. I was told my placement is in...HAT YAI (ummm not great but majority of people are here so thats good) and on the brightside I'm at HATYAIWITTAYALAISOMBOONKULKANYA SCHOOL...which is one of the top 10 high schools in Thailand and only 1 female and 1 male teacher from our batch where lucky enough to get placed there :)!!!
Tomorrow we go apartment hunting...
