Retired & Traveling
Watching our ship dock this morning was very interesting, as it looked like we were stuck from our perspective! The ship was churning up sand & you couldn't see the dock from our side but all was well. We had a late docking this morning, arriving at 8:00 a.m. but the good news was that we were the only cruise ship in port (at that time--2 others arrived about 1:00 p.m.) We enjoyed a leisurely breakfast and then set out to visit the port city of Katakolon.
Katakolon is a very small seaside village with lots of restaurants & shops mostly along the waterfront. We mainly browsed but did manage to pick up some bargains here & there. And Teena & I finally got our Baklava fix--this is the first Greek Isle that's sold it!!! The Greek beer, Alpha, is quite tasty and we enjoyed one while taking in the beautiful view of the water.
Rich & I decided we'd had enough of the shopping & didn't feel like doing much else, so we came back to the ship. He's now off for a massage (I had mine the other day) and I'm relaxing on our balcony. We could've gone into Olympia, which was the original site of the Olympic games, but we decided we'd seen enough "rocks" at this point & decided to skip that. Sometimes you just need to kick back & relax!
One thing that occurred today was the crew practicing their "man overboard" exercises. They were at it all day & it was really interesting to watch them take turns snagging the life preserver that they'd thrown into the water. Good to know they can actually do it. LOL
I think this site I'm blogging thru had some issues for a few days because I've been posting almost daily, so I'm glad y'all finally got caught up. I spent a lot of time yesterday trying to upload some pictures...and have about 600 more to weed thru and try to figure out what is what. Rich downloaded all of Brian's from his camera & also from ours, so we'll see how much I get done.
We plan to catch a show tonight & enjoy a late dinner, maybe go for a drink in this gorgeous lounge at the aft of the ship (that's the rear for all you non-cruisers. LOL) I've finally learned which is port & which is starboard, but I always have to figure out which is the front of the ship to know for sure!
Crystal--I can't believe you weaned Eli!! I can't wait to see him, he's growing up way too fast.
Traci--in case I can't get internet tomorrow...HAPPY BIRTHDAY! Wish we were there to celebrate w/you but will hope you have good weather at the lake.
Until tomorrow....
