Retired & Traveling
This morning started early since we were told last night by our landlord that our water would be turned off at 7:00 am for maintenance by the water company. We all got up and got ready and when we left at 10:00, the water was still working! I finally remembered to take some pictures of the apartment we had rented...such a great deal and a lot roomier than what a hotel would've been. We were very happy with it and the location.
Rich or Mike (I forget which one told me) read in a local paper about this string art project that was just down the street from us, so Pam and I went to go check it out. It was so cool looking--all these different colored pieces of twine that you could tie on to it in any way you wanted. We snapped a couple pictures and left.
Pam and I caught the bus and were on the hunt for some magnets--I hadn't had a chance to buy any other than a small one I picked up in Christiana yesterday believe it or not! :)) We found the street where the souvenir shops were and I found some right away. She was still looking, so we journeyed on down the street in search of a good deal. She found one and -- long story, but I ended up whacking my head on the glass case where she was paying. It made this very loud sound, one that could be heard throughout the entire store...so add embarrassment to the injury! A lady that was shopping had heard the commotion and came over to help me, said she was a physical therapist and that I should put pressure on it to keep it from bleeding on the inside. What an ordeal!! Can't take me anywhere!!
After shopping, we met back up with the guys and ate a quick bite at the bakery by our apt. We called for a taxi and just as the cab arrived, it began to POUR rain!! We and our suitcases all got a bit wet but not too bad.
On our way to the Pier, our cabbie drove by the string art project and it was gone!! Completely dismantled and in a huge pile. We were glad we got the chance to see it earlier before it was destroyed.
We arrived at the port and were a little concerned that we wouldn't be able to board since our time to board was at 4:00. However, we got on without any delays or lines or anything, smoothest embarkation ever! Oh, and it had stopped raining for us to get out of the taxi--a nice plus!
Once onboard, we found our rooms and began settling in. Our steward, Rez, came by and gave us all the scoop on muster, opened our balcony so we can be "back door neighbors" with the Honnerts and some other info. We went over all our excursion tickets and made sure they were all in order and Pam decided to take a nap. Rich was doing his own thing so Mike and I went down to the Internet Cafe to find out how to access our wireless accounts. We lucked out there because the Cafe was slow and we got help right away. By the time we left, there was a huge line!
I was hungry at this point, and we were right next to the International Cafe, so I got a Greek Salad and a fruit tart. Mike got a couple chocolate chip cookies. We sat in the Piazza people watching for a bit--the place was really beginning to hop!
Muster was next and then it was time for dinner. We decided to try the traditional style of eating for this cruise and had signed up for a table for 4, but we were seated at a table for 8. We questioned this and found out that we could speak to the maître d' later on to get it changed. Fortunately, the 4 people that joined us were interesting (one married couple that travels every year with two other women--fitting that they are from California LOL), but we went ahead and requested to be put at a table for 4. We won't find out where we've been put though until day after tomorrow since we have reservations for the Crown Grill tomorrow night. :))
Dinner was delicious as always and as we were getting ready to leave, Mike spotted our waitress, Zenna, that we had on the Emerald Princess! We went over and asked her if she remembered us and I don't know if she was lying or telling the truth, but she said she did and gave us all a big hug! We wanted to sit in her section but she didn't have any tables left! Bummer!
We had finished dinner just in time to go to the theater and catch a magic act. Martin is the cruise director and I'd forgotten how funny he is (from when I sailed on this ship back in February with Kathi)--very entertaining!
Pam and I headed off to do some shopping on the ship and each got a little something--tshirt for me, sweatshirt for her.
Oslo is tomorrow. :))
