We left Airlie Beach today to head further south. Our first intended stop was Mackay to take Jack & Pops to a waterpark that they had their eye on. The disappointment radiated through the car when it was agreed that it was too cold and wet to visit. Will have to double up on the theme parks on the Gold Coast.
Non-stop rain on the drive, at one point we decided to pull into a truck stop, hop in the caravan and have a coffee whilst a heavy shower came through.
After looking at caravan parks for Mackay on Wiki (and not being greeted by great reviews) we decided on our destination - Cape Palmerston Holiday Park. What a corker. About 10kms off the highway this gem is about 5 years old. We were greeted by kangaroo's on our entrance, large sites, new amenities block. A bit of misty rain was a let down however we setup then went for a long walk down the beach.
On the walk we were lucky enough to come accross a large coconut. A little fun was had with a coconut throwing championship, Baz was probably competing above his class. We then had a big kick of the footy, had dinner and got ourselves comfortable for the big game.
We weren't to be disappointed. Great game between Hawks & Cats. The result hinging on a kick by Isaac Smith after a siren. Pity there had to be only one winner, however well done to the Cats. They now have a great advantage going in to the rest of the finals. Bit of work to do for the Hawks.
