When we get off the Boat in Ko Pha Ngan it was the same of Samui, lots of people offering us taxis or places to stay, again we ignored them, and walk aimlessly to end of the pier (I'm starting to think they are there for a reason), but we get a taxi to where we went to go, because we actually read the guide book properly this time and decided on a place to stay. So we get dropped off in the middle of the main street and we pick up our bags and go searching. Now i dont know how this happens, but no matter when we leave one place or whatever time we are due to arrive in an other we end up walking about at noon, which means we might as well be in an oversized aga! Although we do well for ourselves and we ask in 3 different places, all of which are full, so when we ask in the next place it has 2 rooms free so, we take the cheapest and set up camp.
A reason we are in Pha Ngan is for the Half Moon party, its like the Full Moon party, just half as Lunar is suppose. Although we find out that the Half Moon Party is isnt on the beach in the area we are staying in, its in the Jungle somewhere else. So this kind of changes our plans. So sitting in our ok'ish room, we decided to only stay the night and head to Ko Tao for a couple of days as the beach here isnt that nice anyway! So we go and book our boat to Ko Tao and sulk a little and go for a walk. Now funny enough we were wrong (again) the beach where we stayed was amazing, ans we just looked at the wrong bit, and now we wondered if we should have just stayed here. Hopefully we will learn from our mistakes (just havent learnt from any of the mistakes so far!!)
Coming back from our little break on Ko Tao, we get off the boat about 5 minutes just before I was due to throw up over the little girl in front of me, things seem to be going well today! Since we have been here before things are a lot more relaxed and we know what to do. We simply head to the end of the pier ask for a taxi and off we go, like i said simple. Wrong!!! What I forgot to mention before, that between the pier and Hat Rin there are a few rather steep hills, the equivalent of the steep side of K2. Conquering these before when it was just me and Charlotte was a struggle to say the least, but when the Stockholm ABBA fan club jump in the taxi as well, us getting to our destination just became slightly more difficult and it didnt help that we had Buffalo Joe as a taxi driver (think Danny Devito , but taller, Fatter and Thai). Luckily we arrived at where we wanted to stay as the clutch exploded, so we were happy.
So the Half Moon party was in the Jungle, so we headed to the Beach (my navigation is getting better!). It was Valentine Day, apparently I was lucky I knew it was day or night I was so disorientated! But we sat on the beach and I treated her to a bucket of vodka and sprite with some fake red bull and I bought her a Flower necklace and a rose some the local kids (really i was cheated out of 50baht by a 9 year old who hustled me at a game of X 'e' O 'es'). After finishing the bucket and we were suitably happy we headed to the jungle on the back of a pick up truck with 8 other complete strangers, tonight was going well. Now when they said the Jungle i was expecting a a few trees around a beer garden behind a wetherspoons, but nope, it was the jungle. It looked like they kicked Mowgli, Baloo and the rest of the Jungle book cast out their home and knoced together a couple of bars and a DJ Booth. But all in all the best club I have been to, espeically with a quarter bottle of gin and some tonic for 6 quid!
The day after the party we headed to the beach to try and recover from the party, but during the night somehow the sun had moved a couple of million light years closer to the earth which resulted in it being slightler hotter than i thought possible. After a couple of hours we decided for our own good we best head back and try and climb into the air conditioning unit. It seems we arrived back just in time, because as soon as we stepped on our balcony it started to rain, now not like it does back home, like god turn the sprinkler on, more like he moved Niagra Falls over Pha Ngan and left it there for a hour or so. This kind of suited us as it brought the temperature down from gas mark 9 to around 7, but it was cool in the room as we had the air conditioning, well we did until the rain decided to induce a power which left us hot sweaty and not a clue what to do. Sitting in the rain then was the option of choice!
Also on a slight serious note, during the power cut Charlotte got hungry, now during a power cut not many restaurants were open as it is difficult to cook chicken with will power. Although we were clever by keeping a supply of emergency food, which equally 2 packets of Thai chewits, (blackcurrant obviously) and a packet of polo, Charlotte went for the healthy option the fruit flavour sweet, but again this proved to be the wrong option as it pulled half of a molar out! Now this would be bad news if you were at home when you had a dentist who you knew and could understand. But when your on an island where the locals English vocab didnt go much past, 'ah, green curry, no its no spicy (which is a lie by the way), heading to the dentist isnt the first thing on your to do list. Unfortunately for her it had to be done but we were told to wait until we got to the main land as they had a dentist, not better dentists, a dentist. This didnt fill Charlotte with much hope but the next day off we went in search of a dentist with insurance policy in hand.
