Apparently not knowing where you are going to stay when you get to Bangkok doesnt please the immigration officals at the airport, but after i made somewhere up, i was through with my first stamp in my passport.

I dont know whether it was because i was wearing a shirt or because we had our rucksacks on a luggage trolley, but some guy, who i think worked in the airport came over and asked us a few questions, then came out with the pharse which i think i was least expecting or wanting to hear, 'I wouldnt go to Koh San Road if i were you because you dont look like a backpacker!' Not what i want to hear when I want to go to Koh San Road and i am trying to be a backpacker. I said cheers for the info and dandered on. For our first night we decided that we would try and stay somewhere nice before we got down to budget places. So of course we spent or first night in a hotel that was in the area known as 'back arse of nowhere' bangkok! But we went into the main area for a dander and to find somewhere else to stay for the rest of the time we were in Bangkok. That night we also found out what we would mainly be eating while in Thailand, fried rice with chicken. After that we headed back to our dream hotel to get ready for the next day, of finding omewhere better to stay and to go and see some Wats.

The next morning answered on of my many questions about the far east, Yes, they do eat curry and stir fry for breakfast and its is just called food and not Thai food (eg, green curry), but i stuck to toast and jam. So we found somewhere else to stay a bit more central, and decided on a plan of action to go and see all these temples, Wats and Buddhas. Apparently all the lovely Tuk Tuk drivers will drive you around Bangkok all day for 20bhat showing you all these sights. Brilliant, that day we got to see a 33metre tall gold Buddha, a Golden Mountain place, which was nice, but i still dont know what it was for and the Emarld temple, which again had a golden Buddha. Now apparently the Palace was closed for some reason, so we didnt go there, but our chaffuer for the day kindly said he would take us to some Thai shops, we said no thanks, back to our hostel please, he started to cry a little as he said he needed to get his free desiel voucher stamped. so we agreed and then took us to a jewelers then a suit shop which we went into neither, so the driver went into a bad mood and took us back to where we were staying and i am sure he swore at us in Thai.

Since we didnt get all our sight seeing done that day the next day we decided, to finish off the sights and book our tickets to Koh Samui. From the Tuk Tuk experience, we decided to walk to the Grand Palace and everywhere else, surely they couldnt be far away, but when its a billzion degrees, everywhere is far away. The Grand Palace is slightly more grand than Buckingham Palace in everyway and more, basically big gold things everwhere. Beside the Grand Palace is Wat Phra Kaew, which holds the Emerald Buddha, which unfortunately you cant take photos of because it is unbelieveable, although it is only a 3 foot tall green buddha statue, it is on top of loads of gold stuff, too difficult to describe but i would suggest to Google it and have a look, pretty amazing. After seeing all this, we were both near dead, so we decided to get a taxi to the next place as it looked pretty far away, the driver quoted us 100 Baht and then drove us 30 seconds down the road and told us to walk down an alley and get a boat across the river, so in a moment of confusion, on whether to punch him or just give him 20 baht and get out, I opted to give him 20 and get out, although he did do us a favour be dropping us off outside the reclining buddha. So we got to see that and then went across the river to see Wat Arun which is basically a load of big steep steps that monks just use as an initiation tests for new monks.

So from seeing all those temples, Buddhas and Wats. We were satified we had enough of Bangkok, so we decided to go to the Bus station to book our bus tickets for Koh Samui which is where we will start the most of our journeys in Thailand. The main problem with this though is that the first 5 taxis we asked wouldnt take us to the bus station. But we got there got our tickets and got back.

So all in all Bangkok was cool, but for a relaxing start to our trip that we wanted, it wasnt the place for us. Although from everything i saw in Bangkok i am slightly confused, what did Buddha look like? Was he 33m tall and gold or was he 3 foot tall and green like yoda?

And I think the Queen is dead, not sure though.
