Adelaide all day.
After a hearty breakfast of pancakes with mixed berries, cream, maple syrup and ice cream (an interesting Aussie mix) time to walk it off sightseeing.
First was a stroll from the hotel through the north Adelaide park to the gardens by the Festival Theatre on the river, passing the Adelaide Oval on the way. Over the river they have built one curved pedestrian bridge and are in the process constructing a mirror image one. Then via the Festival Theatre and it's concourse, further along the riverside passing through the Adelaide Conference Centre and onto North Terrace and then to Hindley Street and down to Victoria Square. Unfortunately, the scene in the square was largely obscured by screening covering what appeared to be a croquet event. Back up to Rundle Mall, the main shopping street which is under going renewal of the paving so over half the width of the street is lost. Where there is space a number of buskers performing, one, a guitarist was really good.
At the end of the street in the Rundle Park there was part of the performing area for the Fringe. It was really interesting to see the variety of acts and activities and the atmosphere was really good. We spent sometime wandering around and felt it could be a really good event if you had the time to devote to it.
We pulled ourselves away after watching leaping acrobats on a pole with no net and strolled back through the University and by the river back to the hotel.
Mid afternoon we headed for Port Adelaide, a historic area with many old buildings, a collectables market in a vast old port shed, a fifties revival event with cars music and people dressed in fifties styles. It was a really interesting area with a very different atmosphere from that of the city.
There are supposed to be bottle nose dolphins in the river but despite several attempts at seeing them in different locations we still did not see any. After this we went out to the coast at Largs and followed it down to West Lakes, at which there was an impressive rowing lake to competitive standard. It is a very low key coast with good looking beaches but not over developed.
After a very enjoyable dinner sitting out on a warm evening at The Store on Melbourne Street we retired for the evening to watch the last of the Sochi Olympics.
