Today Dee has organised a train trip to Mt Snowdon.
We travelled an hour north through some stunning Welsh scenery. There was rhododendrons growing everywhere even to the top of very high mountains. The rivers flowed fast and there were many waterfalls as it had been raining during the night. The countryside is so beautiful in Wales.
Unfortunately close to our destination another vehicle clipped the side mirror of the van and broke it. The roads are narrow but there was enough room.
We arrived at Llanberis close to the train that would take us to Mt Snowdon. We had lunch at Pete's Eats which was a bit like sitting in your kitchen with brightly coloured vinyl tablecloths but a at very reasonable price. The food was good.
Our train ride was at 2pm. A steam locomotive called 'George' pushed a carriage with about 50-60 people. The train wound it's way up the mountainside for 7.5 miles which took an hour. There were 3 stops to allow other locomotive to pass going down the mountain.
Meanwhile we watched Trekkers ranging from 4-80 yrs making their way to the summit. This can take up to 4 hrs to walk some of which is very steep.
The summit is at 1085 metres above sea level and is the 2nd highest mountain in England. What a view!!! Breathtaking views but at times there was nothing but a sheer drop on either side of the train. We climbed the last bit and that is the photo posted. The views in all directions were nothing I had seen before. We were lucky that the sky had cleared so the mountain was not in the clouds.
We then caught the train back to the bottom. We have to thank Dee for such a spectacular train ride.
I will post more photos once I have better access to Wifi. The campsite does not have very good reception so I have to wait till I can get free wifi in town.
Will post the rest of the day soon. xxxxx
