Another rainy day. Today we traveled to Bath. The trip only took about 45 mins but it took 45mins to find somewhere to park the camper. The 'park and drive' only caters for cars with a height restriction barrier at the entrance. After Dee contacting Information and a few U turns we arrived at a coach parking area in the centre of Bath. It was then only a five minute walk to the centre of town.
The city is beautiful with many old building. All the houses are in rows and look very similar. We visited Bath Abbey, a large cathedral in the centre of town. The stained glass windows were beautiful and the pipe organ was huge. We were allowed to take photos so we have posted pictures of it and other sights of Bath. I lit a candle for Anne, Dad and Mum. Only fitting to remember them at this time.
A lot of the eating places were expensive but we found the Saracens Head Tavern which is the oldest pub in Bath and opened in 1713. We have been eating large meals uptill now but this was more my portion size.
We visited the Roman Baths which are a relic of its former structure. We were given a handheld microphone to listen to the history of the baths. We took an hour just admiring what the romans had built. It is the only hot springs in England. We taste tested the mineral water there and it was bad tasting. Wouldn't like to have it all the time.
John's birthday was celebrated in Valeries Patisserie where there were lots of yummy cakes to choose from. Trevor had organised the staff to sing happy birthday to John. Even I wasn't prepared for that. A nice thought!!! Thank you Trevor.
Nick, we even found STA in Bath next to Burger King. You probably told me they were worldwide but it was a surprise. Even found Specsavers down the street.
The trip out of Bath was much easier with it only taking 45mins.
I am now up to date with all our photos and blogs.
Tomorrow we travel back to Emsworth via the Regimental Badges, White Horse, Stone Henge and Larkhill where John used to live.
Till tomorrow. xxxxx
