Today was a day I had been looking forward too. Today I was to do the Shark Dive. After saying goodbye to my bus group, I got picked up by the BAD Shark Dive Group (Baga Adventure Dives). There were 8 of us punters and 8 crew divers accompanying us. I was still a little nervous, not of the sharks but of diving as I felt still very new to it. But I was in good hands and given my own dive buddy from the team. First dive was split into 3 depths. Starting at 30 metres, we watched Reef and Bull sharks being fed for about 15 minutes, then we ascended to 20metres where we saw mainly reef sharks but also many beautiful fish and a stunning Moray Eel managed to get on the act to. I liked this section particularly as the sharks swam right over my head. We finished the dive at 5 metres at watched smaller reef sharks and fish whilst we did our safety stop. Amazing. An hours wait on the boat then on the the 2nd dive. A 30 minute dive at 20 metres with the bigger Bull Sharks. There were between 40 to 45 of them. They were being fed tuna heads that had been placed in special bait bins earlier that morning. The sharks had been 'trained' to approach the feeders from left hand side, any shark that approached from the right was butted away. It was mesmerising watching this feed session, just shark after shark after shark, majestically gliding past and opening it's mighty jaws to take the feed. I couldn't help remember my training back last summer, in the loch at Gunwharf. This was what it was all about. I am so glad I learnt to dive. Some of the sharks had hooks hanging out their mouths, evidence of deep sea fishing incidents. Papa, the Dive Master told me that they have about 107 sharks they feed and they are all different so much so that they all have names. Their best known shark is Scar Face, a Tiger shark. Unfortunately, she was away in another area due to being pregnant.
It was an absolutely amazing experience. I have the DVD and would love to bore anyone with it ... just ask!
My next 2 nights in Uprising Resort were quite quiet, except on the last night when I was unexpectedly joined by Kerri-Ann and Gareth who introduced me to a night guard called Michael. Michael came from a remote island which took 2 days to reach by boat. After a few beers, it seemed perfectly feasible for us to build our own resort on Michaels island with the help on volunteer backpackers - still seems like a good idea, just need to know where to start!

Yvonne Hi Anne - A GOOD READ - you could end up your return putting all your blogs together with your pics and publishing a book - THE NEXT BILL BRYSON! Yvonne x p.s. Pour a bottle of wine down my neck first and up for the DVD! Ha! That's is exactly why I'm doing a blog, I get to publish it as my own personal book. Hence it is quite boring in places but I still need to record it. I will definitely be boring you all with my stories when I get back - movie night too!
Yvonne Re: Bill Bryson Obviously you would be a female version!!!!!!
Ann Hi Anne,It's great to get your blogs again. I was beginning to think that you were just lazing about in Fiji, soaking up the sun so nothing to write home about! I should have known better - well, I did actually. It's good to know all your diving training has come into it's own - seeing all those sharks "in the flesh" must have been amazing. How did the "resort" on Michael's remote island turn out? Foundations is where to start!Love Ann x Hi Ann Well buy the time we had got through a substantial amount of beer we had a top notch diving centre on the worlds most unspoilt reefs complete with shark encounter tours and snorkel spectaculars. Ha! We can but dream.
