22nd Jan 2011. Started Feejee Experience tour. Small bus about 24 seater. I was first pick-up scheduled for 7.30am, eventually turned up at 8.15am, this was my introduction to 'Fiji time'. Tour guide was called Rubyn, with driver Willy. First day was a bit of a nonsense really. Felt very disorganised, with alot of waiting around and one guy supposed to be on the tour had already gone to the first night destination and was on his way back to join us. All a bit weird. But we visited a village where we had to all wear surrongs and cover our shoulders. The children were still on school holidays so we were greeted by lots of children. It was an interesting visit and nice to see the kids. At lunch time we stopped of at a beach for a traditional bbq and a swim in the crystal clear sea. I thought I saw a sea snake and had everyone running for the safety of the beach ... turned out to be a diving mask with a broken head band that was 'snaking' in the water. (Africa has made me a little jumpy - you can never be too sure). First night was spent at Mango Bay resort where we were entertained with traditional Fijian dancing and yet another Kava ceremony. Hans was the Chief with Simon as his spokesman - the Chief doesn't say anything, the spokesman does all that, and Simon had us all knocking back Kava like it was going out of fashion. (Kava is a traditional Fijian drink made by mashing the Kava root in water through a cloth sleeve. It looks like very runny cement, and tastes a bit like it too!)
