I woke up to my dear little sister's birthday today and after sending her a verbally abusive message as usual, we got on the bus. Brisbane's bus station is actually stationed under the city so we went underground and caught a bus to Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary Zoo.
On the route, I have to pinch my arms constantly to make sure I am not dreaming because Brisbane is bathed in sunshine and the neighbourhoods we passed through's lawns is impeccably cut and the grass were yellow-ish yet it is actually winter in Australia now!
We got in the zoo and I had my pictures taken with a snake, a baby crocodile and a koala along with Sara and Ashley. I had to hold a snake first which oddly enough for me being an avid snake-lover as a boy is an experience that terrify me a lot. I have to stop my mind from playing footage from Snakes on Plane film while I am struggling to hold the snake because it was moving around a lot. It even frisked Sara's vest and went up Ashley's shorts earlier!
Baby crocodile were next on the agenda and it cheered me up a lot to see the jaws clamped shut by a duct tape and while holding it, I can actually feel its body rising and deflating like a balloon as it breathes. After handing it over with all of my limbs intact, I looked forward to the last animal on the agenda-Koala
But it look distinctly unimpressed and slightly hang-over ( Pardon my over-active imagination) while we held it but it were an awesome feeling to come up so close with an exotic animal even if it looked like it rather to be somewhere else!
We went to a kangaroo enclosure and it turned out to be one of the most heart-warming experience in my life- Kangaroos were much more friendly even if we did bribed them with kangaroos food and we spent hours feeding them and cuddling them. They were allowed to roam free in a huge field so we walked around in glorious sunshine and fed kangaroos as we walked. I was surprised by how tall they are and the fact they used their tails to balance on the ground as they hop by perching the tip of their tail on the ground.
We also saw some Australian animals such as wombats, platpyus and emus who gave us a warm welcome by throwing up on the ground which Dominic stepped in.
We went back to the hostel where I volunteered to cook dinner, an experience which I managed to scramble through despite burning my thumb and setting a tea-towel on fire by mistake yet the food came out unscathed and delicious. After accepting the fact I am not going to be next Gordon Ramsay, I retired to the bed nursing my burnt thumb.
