Today has certainly been an experience and a half!!! We booked ourselves a day trip to Fraser Island, which is the largest sand island in the world, and obviously had to be seen!!! So we set off at 5am feeling mighty tired and caught the ferry over to the island. When we got there we were greeted by our coach, but this was a coach with a difference!!! It was in fact more like a monster truck - you can imagine a 4 wheel drive coach (if you can't just check out the pictures!) So we set off in this beast of a machine, and 30 minutes into the journey we had to stop as we'd actually lost a wheel!!! We didn't mind too much though as we were rewarded with muffins and cookies while we waited - which we made the most of!!! So we made tracks again, and one hour later we were finally able to get off of the bus full of screaming old people and check out Ely Creek, which was a freshwater creek along the side of 75 Mile Beach. Well, 75 Mile Beach is just one of the other crazy things in Oz - its actually a registered highway, with a speed limit of 100km per hour!! No sunbathing on this beach!! Whilst we were there though we did manage to spot a whale, which was flicking its tail in and out of the water. Our next stop was at the Pinnacles - cliffs made out of different layers of coloured sands, which were supposedly formed when a rainbow died on the beach! After that we visited the Maheno Shipwreck, which was a huge rusty ship washed up on the beach - very cool!!! Then came the best part of the day - lunch!!! In a nice resort, and it was even a buffet - us travellers have to take advantage of these luxuries!!! After we'd filled our bellies we went for a bushwalk through the rainforest alongside a freshwater creek - the water was so pure it was unable to support hardly any lifeforms and we could even drink it! Last but not least, our final stop of the day was Lake McKenzie, where we relaxed on the white sand by the side of the crystal clear waters, ahh!!! Hope your all jealous!! As if the journey from hell back the ferry port wasn't enough excitement, we were late for the ferry and had to run all the way so that we didn't miss it!! But fear not, we are invinceable (well nearly!), and got on just in time!!! So that little adventure left us knackered and in serious need of our beds - but not before another healthy dinner of beans on toast!!
