The 4wd access point to Stockton sand dunes was at Birubi Beach so the Birubi Beach Caravan Park was our home for the next four nights. We had looked into a Tag-Along-Tour of the dunes for Saturday morning but we had several inches of rain Friday night and was still raining Saturday morning so it was not a good day for the dunes.Fingers crossed for better weather, these dunes were a must do!They are something quite amazing to see. They look big but until you get on top of them and look down and around you don't realise how big they are.We had met a couple from Sydney, Glen & Rhona, they come to Birubi Beach often. They had offered to take us up the beach to Tin City, the Sygna Shipwreck and then for a play on the dunes(weather permitting).Sunday was bleak but it was not raining so we headed off!Stockton beach here we come!! We headed straight along the beach to Tin City.It was hard to believe that people still stay in this place? At times the only things visible are the aerials, the rest completely covered by sand. And to think I go off when the kids come into the van covered in sand!Just imagine having the whole caravan covered, sorry but no thanks, that type of living is not for me.Then we headed to the far end of the beach to the shipwreck.Newcastle visible in the background. Then it was time we hit the dunes, I could see the smile on James face.James had read alot about this place in all the 4wd mags.He was keen considering the Nissan has been a shopping Trolley for the past 4 years, now it was time to put it to the test. We came to a good dune, I got out and ran to the bottom to catch that perfect photo, fingers crossed I captured one.Nissan 3L verse Nissan 4.2L, you will be pleased to know that a Nissan won.Coming down was the easy part it was back up the dune that was going to be the challenge. Both Nissan's straight up and over. But once is not enough, James and the kids were loving it, so off they went again.Next thing the reverse lights were on, back down he comes.Abit more of a run up may be what he needed here he goes and yep on goes the reverse lights again.Must say by this stage the Nissan was blowing some serious black smoke and Glen and I were laughing hard!Rhona decided she would give it a go and show James exactly how it was done, first go up and over she went. This must have got James going abit his fourth attempt fingers crossed, YES HE'S done it and the crowd goes wild. Now we could move on to some other dunes and make our way back to camp. A big thanks to Glen & Rhona for a great day on the beach.
Port Stephens No 1 tourist attraction - Shark & Ray Feeding. This is pretty amazing thing to do! We first saw it with the little channel 7 weather man GD, and thought we have to give this a go! A 300kg ray, rubbing up your leg, looking for a feed? Sounds interesting eh? But the Stingrays were amazing and so silky smooth! The sharks had alot rougher skin. Just to clear it up, they are not all STINGrays. They are all in the same family though. Charli was pretty keen to get in amongst it but Chels said there was no way.Chels was happy enough feeding from the side and just watching us in the water with sharks & rays.Charli was abit hesitant but did have a go, she looked so cute in her wetsuit.Just jump on in, clip a piece of fish onto your feeding stick and hang on!They really are friendly little b*****s!This is the only place in Australia that you can do this so I'm glad we took the time to enjoy this experience.
Our next adventure takes us on a wild goose chase looking for Charli's favourite animal- the Zebra at Taronga Western Plains Zoo, Dubbo.
