Trip of a Lifetime
8/2/06
As Rotarua was so close we didn't leave Taupo until 9.30am. It wasn't long before we stopped at a place called Huka Falls where the water leading up2 the falls was movingso fast and then therewas an 11m drop, it looked dangerous. We then headed to a place called the Craters of the Moon. We did a short walk but all we sawwas steam escaping from the ground not much activity,no mud pools or anything. When we arrived in Rotarua all we could smell was smelly eggs (sulphur), it wasn't the best smell. After lunch we headed for the Mauri Arts and Cultural Institute where it started pissing it down, however, this was the best weahter to see the geysers as it raises the water level. We first went inside and saw how they carved their amazing pieces of woodwork and then headed out to the mud pools and the geyser. The geyser went up while we were there so it was an amazing sight to see.
We headed to a YHA to sleep that night. Good thing we were going out for dinner as there was not much there. At 6.15pm we got on the coach and headed to the Lake Plaza Hotel where we were going to have a traditional Mauri meal called a Hangi and then watch a concert where we got to see the men perform the Haka. At aboutn 9pm we headed back to the YHA.
