Day 1 of 4x4 Tour
Boom and the blog virginity is gone!!! Thought it was about time I lent my view to this little excursion.
We left the hostel in San Pedro prepared for artic conditions as we had been reliably informed that it gets bloody cold up in the mountains. We had said our goodbyes to Eric and Jacob our new found drinking buddies from the USA and jumped on a mini bus to the Bolivian border.
We climbed from 600m to 4500m in the space of an hour, which would give me and ant a banging headache for the next 3days and were asked to eat breakfast in below zero conditions and swap over to a 4x4 jeep. It was so, so cold despite all the layers of clothing.
Our excitement at being underway in the jeep soon turned to terror as we were crammed in the back with a French chap and the driver did his best to tip the jeep over on the terrible road surfaces.
Still we managed to survive the first day and were blown away by the scenery, hopefully the pix will do it some justice but I doubt it.
We stopped for the night at little more than a cowshed and donned every item of clothing we owned plus sleeping bag……but still froze. Nightmare continued in the morning when Ant discovered there was no bog paper and the chodder´s had been pebble dashed by some bargain hunt during the night. Steering well of the stench when brushing our teeth we finished breakfast and climbed back into the death trap.
