Another day in Paradise! Today on Kastellorizo Island, Greece, only 2 miles from Turkey.
Because we didn't eat at the restaurant outside which we had moored 'Tanema', Captain Genghis had to move the boat while we were ashore having dinner - none to politely told to 'piss off'! So, moored further around the harbour where no restaurant had landing rights.
Woke up to a near empty bay around which the town is built and a few of us headed off to explore - up the steep pathway to the top of the island, to the Fort with great views back to Turkey, only 2 miles away, a wander through the stone floored alleyways between neatly painted stone houses, and around the bay. Discoveries included an open Lycian tomb, the cemetery, the odd Greek Othodox church, one little chapel in someone's backyard right on the water, some beautiful gardens planted out with olives, grapevines, pomegranate, fig trees, herbs, lots of brightly coloured geraniums and plenty of bougainvillea.
The Internet cafe was right on the water, so I sat outside with my hot chocolate, the water lapping right next to my chair.
We headed back to Kas in Turkey after breakfast, to have passports stamped yet again, finding a spot to swim
off the boat and have lunch on board while the coast guard got round to processing the passports, collected by dinghy from Kas.
Louise gave an excellent one ski demonstration, some of us swam, others took the canoes out - Mary under tow. A delicious 30 odd degrees again, deep turquoise water you can see to the bottom of and gentle breeze. A particularly slothful afternoon, much snoozing and reading and some fervent conversation.
Late afternoon headed off towards Kalkan, further up the Turkish coast, for an overnight at anchor off shore, and dinner on board - big sea bass sold to us still kicking in a bucket by a local fisherman. Transaction between fisherman in dinghy and our Captain on the boat ladder.
Fish Main was preceded by fish soup.
There is no chance of malnourishment or scurvy aboard for anyone vaguely concerned about our welfare!
Comment on the food - while I haven't provided blow by blow description of the food so far it has been outstanding quality, presentation, variation, and amount available. Everything is prepared from fresh, and every food group covered.
Vicky and Garry then had our brains switched on with their version of trivial pursuit. As well as performing superbly
on all intellectual questions, it's amazing what useless information one stores for future reference!
Another beautiful clear night, a delight to be dining on deck, everyone dribbling off to bed as needs.
