Hot early this morning. A few of us into our strenuous exercise regimes early, lots of swimming from ship to rocky shore or checking out the closest private pontoons at the front of a couple of large homes.
There are beach umbrellas and beach beds lined up in rows on every spot of beach in Kalkan, all for a fee. Ah, the delights of swimming from the boat!!
Breakfast late, then Vicky and I headed for Kalkan marina by canoe - a leisurely half an hour, overtaken by our 'mother ship' en route. The water is ridiculously deep, the color the perfect turquoise in all the tourist pics, and clear as.
Giving the crew a rest on feeding us over lunch, everyone browsing the town, and allowing their stomachs a rest.
Kalkan is primarily new buildings, blocks of medium rise apartments, and full of Brits who can fly straight here cheaply, and buy/build/rent holiday homes at a reasonable price. Instead of the grey nomad caravanning syndrome in Aus, think the British grey nomads all head to Kalkan!
So, while good to have access to more excellent Tod, Prada, Mulberry, Chanel, Louis Vuitton leather knock offs, and crappy general Turkish touristica artifacts, the real Turkey is more fun discovered by boat where we can go where we like and get an appreciation of the history, culture, and life today. Admittedly there is a fair bit of chill out time just appreciating our luxurious vessel, the weather, our books, snoozing and each other.
We re-muster aboard in a couple of hours, no doubt comparing the goodies discovered ashore. So, will post this from under the grapevines and umbrellas at Cafe Leon and do my bit for the turkish economy. We are mooring at anchor again tonight, not far from Kalkan.
Cheers!
