8/12 We left Denmark and started the long (450km) drive towards Perth via an inland route that is basically one long straight road through an area called the western wheat belt. Spent today exploring the environs of Denmark. As it's on the coast ( Great Southern Ocean)we visited a few of the white sandy beaches as the sun was out and the temperature on the rise. There is a bay called 'Elephants Cove' near here, named because of the huge granite rock formations that occur on this coastline have formed into shapes that resemble a herd of elephants. So started the long drive south then east toward Albany, 350 kms away. Once we left the beach/ tourist area we travelled along the most empty road I've ever seen. Drove north from Margaret River area to explore the coastline and many surfing beaches in the area. There are also hundreds of wineries, mostly small independent places but most offer wine tastings. We visited one that was recommended and purchased a mixed case which we had sent on to Tom and Sarah's address. Another Christmas present dealt with!
