8/12 We left Denmark and started the long (450km) drive towards Perth via an inland route that is basically one long straight road through an area called the western wheat belt. Well named as stretching to the horizon in every direction we could see golden wheat being harvested.
We stopped for lunch in a town called Kojonup which had a little museum recalling life in the last century in the local community and entertained us for an hour or two. It also had an area dedicated to the local Aboriginal history complete with an aborigine guide who apparently made up most of what he told us according to the woman in the gift shop! Jack, the guide, was approaching 80 so I reckon he was entitled to ham it up.
Continued on to our last accommodation in WA, at a winery near a place called Wandering. Only a 90 minute drive from here to Perth airport and gets a high rating on Trip Advisor. Here for 2 nights. We eventually found it as it is set back from the road and pretty remote. Our cabin is delightful and we had our evening meal delivered to us by the owner! There is a small restaurant on site but only open at weekends. We spent a lazy but enjoyable day walking around the vineyard and avoiding spiders' webs. We joined the owners for a BBQ in the evening and sampled some of their wines. Tomorrow we leave for Melbourne.
