Put another snag on the barbie mate!
Got to Byron Bay mid morning off the night bus and was absolutly shattered as didnt sleep a min!well maybe a couple but not a lot :( When I arrived it was gorgeously hot and i walked around for a bit checking out the place and trying to find a hostel. Obviously I headed straight for the beach :) and then actually found somewhere to stay, Aquarius, a couple streets from the beach! Perfect. Originaly I really wanted to stay in a place called The Arts Factory cos its meant to be a really bizzare experiance, but they were fully booked.
The beach at Byron is beautiful, you have the town behind you but when you are looking out to sea on the left there is a row of hills and little mountains which we drove through to get to Byron. Its stunning! Pretty much just chilled out and slept on the beach, oh and went boogie boarding! yay so much fun! :) Then in the evening I walked round the town. It kinda has a Glastonbury Festival atmosphere here so I loved it isntantly! Lotsa funky shops, music, happy ppl! :) There were live bands playing in loadsa pubs and on the street. I watched the Byron Bay Jam Junction in a little park for a couple of hours! It was amazing! Loads of different musicians coming and going, playing, singing....... fantastic performance!
The next day I went to the markets which was a massive problem for me not being able to spend too much money!! Luckly again there was live music to distract me for a bit! A brilliant artist called Juzzie Smith played, really funky guitar, harmonica and didgeridoo player! In the trees behind some of the stalls there was lots of people playing drums and other percusion and singing and dancing! (Kinda like glasto!! :) and also reminded me of Kids Camp when we sang round the campfire etc :) I went and joined in and stayed there for a while. Really loved it everyone was so free and happy! Spent the rest of the day at the beach before heading up to the Lighthouse (the most easternly point in Australia) and wacthing the sun set. Ah pretty! :)
Byron is a really funky place and apparently the surrounding areas are gorgeous too! Definatly somewhere I could have spent a long time, it was similar to Airlie Beach but more diverse and bigger too! :)
