Put another snag on the barbie mate!
After 14hours on the bus I was suprisingly not that tired. Went to a hostel called Beaches and checked in. There was hardly anyone else there. Was so bizzare going from such a busy place like Airlie to Harvey bay which is so quite and there was not really an awful lot there. The main reason everyone who was staying in the hostel was to got to Fraser Island. Had a good evening all the same, dancing and drinking all round! Its so cool quickly you can make friends when you are travelling! I guess also in Australia, epspecially the east caost, backpackers are EVERYWHERE so its not exactly hard!
The next morning I caught the bus to the barge which takes us over to the Island and on the other side we were met by a massive 4WD bus!a monster I swear! In the mornig we went for a walk through the rainforest! It was so cool! Although I did find myself constantly taking pictures of leaves and trees and I had toi stop because I felt pretty stupid!Fraser Island is the largest sand Island in the world, its pretty cool how everything grows there when its just sand! Also there are loads of freshwater lakes on the Island! Crazy! After the rainforest walk we had BBQ and then in the afternoon we drove down the 75mile beach! Although its a beach it is also a highway, doesnt look like one but all road regulations apply, not that there were many vechiles to be honest. It was amazing how we drove for ages n ages and all you can see is a huge beach stretching out in front of you and the mass of the ocean beside you! We stopped at sand pinnicles and a place called Indian Head which I the only rocks on the Island! From the top of the cliff we say fish in the water and a turtle! It was so cool cos at one stage the turtle kind of rode the wave shortly and we could see him so well! :) It was beautiful there, the sun was stunning and everywhere we looked were beaches and sand dunes and then just water! :) We then went for a swin in Eli creek which was v pretty although didnt see any of the eels that apparently live there! That evening we had mexican! my fav! and chilled out in the beach bar!
The next morning I woke up thinking I could hear someone in the shower but I massive clap of thunder proved otherwise! It was tipping it down! Which naturally propted conversations about how I must be used to the rain living in England! hehe! Anyway, it was still pretty warm dispite the rain. We had a 30min walk through the forest and over the sand dune to Lake Wabby (pretty sure thats the name) so beacuse it was raining and we were going swimming we decided to walk there in our swimmers! Was so funny! And so so wet, because of the rain the spiders webs were more apparent so we saw some HUGE ones all orange legged and scary looking! When we got to the lake we just jumped straight in cos we were so wet anyway! The water was so warm it was like swimming in a big bath! And it was so cool with the rain because there was steam coming out of the rain forest and llots of bubbles on the lake surface! We then walked back to the bus a different way which was a bit longer and went back to the base where we iduged in many a cup of tea and hot chocolate!
Guess what was on the itinery for the afternoon!?!?!? Swimming! hehe! The rain had started to clear though and we were going to miss out on the bautiful Lake Mackenzie which is surrounded by Silocon sands and is full of the clearest and weirdly soft water! We spent time there exfoliating and swimming. Although it was cloudy it was stunning, I can only imagine it would be incredible if it wa sunny!
Again I was so lucky to meet some fab people on the tour, we had a wicked time! That evening, Bowie, Ian and I went for dinner and then saw Harry Potter!!! My bus wasnt til 1am so I had soem time to kill!!! Was so cool! Scary movie and sad and very funny! yay! onto the next place! Byron Bay! love to everyone! xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
