A short hour ferry from samui was bearable for Anne marie after jane and gaz loaded her up with sea sick tablets.
We stayed in Sandy bay bungalows on Had yao beach (long beach). The bungalows were again superb and literally on the beach. We booked a particular room after a recommendation on Facebook but this room was unavailable the first night which we knew. When we went to move after the first night the receptionist said she thought another room would be better than the one we asked for and we were upgraded free of charge - Love that! The beach was pretty quiet and chilled and the water was crystal clear!
We then went to the other side of the island for the new years party. 30,000 people were expected to be on the beach! We've never really seen anything like it. Everyone plastered in UV paint. The beach was full of bars and food stands, all playing different types of music. We started with a bucket to get things going and then worked our way around the bars. There was a fire show when the clock struck 12 and a fire work display. However, little did we know that there's not really a saftey distance in Thailand and the fireworks were being set of feet away from where we were standing on 12. Mum (karen) would have thought isis struck I'm sure! This was a new years too remember! We had to have a taxi home, taxis over here are like converted jeeps with seats either side. Anyway, there wasn't enough room for both, I obviously didn't want to leave Anne marie but didn't want to wait for the next taxi either so I said I'll stand on the back of the truck on the step and hold on. It certainly sobered me up and I didn't need a kebab after because I hate a ton of mosquitos and flies!
We needed a day of doing nothing on new years day to get over the night before! On the 2nd we decided to hire a ped and explore. My friend recommended us to go and try the wipeout course. I'm sure all of you have seen the programme and Anne maries video hhahahahahahahahahha. Believe me when I say, its so much harder than it looks. I thought I was doing pretty well. Got half way round without getting knocked off anything and then this kid from Myanmar came speeding past (he really was ridiculous) neither of us could join the 74 that completed the red balls in three years though! That evening we went to thong sala. It's a market full of street vendors. We both ate and drank for under two pounds, even leaving some because we were too full! Steve and Brandon would be in there absolute element! We tried finding a pub to watch the Liverpool game after this but no success. They played West ham so maybe John or Richard could let us know how they got on - also we don't know who was top entering the new year so if you could inform me of that too it would be great :)
We liked this place so much we booked another night. I had to asked for the cheapest room though as we are backpacking don't forget!! For 14 pound we got a decent bungalow which was off the beach but still had a Seaview. We also didn't really want three nights back in phuket.
Now it's two nights in phuket town and then the flight over to Phnom Penh, Cambodia. We hope you all had a fantastic new year and we will now see you this year :)
