The bus journey to Siem reap was comical. We were promised a luxury bus. A limousine coach I think they called it. One of the worst buses I've ever seen! The road was tarmac for about an hour of the 6 hour trip and then it turned to mud and dirt! There was a lot of road works taking place were one lane was open. Where in England we would have traffic lights it was just a free for all. Busses passing busses. Lorries passing lorries all on a single mud track. The actual trip was good and we got to see what Cambodia was like outside the cities - an extremely beautiful country which I think you'd have to visit to really believe it.
We stayed in the cashew nut guesthouse. Which we think was owned by a gay couple, not too sure. 10 pound a night got us a big room with access to their swimming pool. Being in phuket and Phnom Penh we missed water! This was a 10 minute walk into the middle of the city or more importantly pub Street!
Pub Street was a street full of ummm.... Pubs. Unreal. So cheap and very busy. We liked Cheers pub where you could get 50 cent beers and $2.50 cocktails. 2 pints Kar would be pissed off a dollar and dad wouldn't leave because of the cheap mojitos. You could also eat anything here: Pigs ears, snakes, frogs legs, chicken feet and tranchulas to name a few. We just stuck with the noodles and rice dishes both filling up for the extortionate price of $5.
Angkor Wat is the world's biggest building. We woke up to watch the sun is over it at half four. We waited there until 6:20 and it was too cloudy! We were grateful for it in the end as the heat us unbearable by half 10. Angkor Wat was amazing the building and it's surroundings are the most beautiful thing. We watch young monks play around with tourist camera taking photos it was so fascinating to watch them as they were so amazed. After angkor Wat we visited other temples. It is a city of temples and we explored 7. All too which were incredible. People said that you need three days but we smashed them all in a few hours. We've had enough of temples now to last us a life time & our legs were beginning to ache. So we headed back for a chilled afternoon by the pool.
