We spent a solid 13 hours travelling down to Sihanoukville, the bus driver stopped at a petrol station and said finished. We were in the middle of nowhere with tuk tuk drivers running at us. After our bags were unloaded, the bus started going again in the direction we wanted to go! We then quickly worked out that he was just helping his mates out to get money. Three English people we were talking to ran and jumped back on the moving bus but we were too far away to catch it!! Then we got stung with the $15 tuk tuk fee!
We arrived at Sunday guesthouse very tired and annoyed that we got done. Just as we arrived the bus went past us! We checked in and quickly went out. We've heard some horrible stories about Sihanoukville but we loved it. A road full of pubs and restaurants leading down to the beach. Pubs with big screens to watch football on and really good western food which was what we needed after being in Battambang. The two places couldn't be more different. After bangers and mash and chips and gravy we walked down to the beach for a look and it was full of mad bars. One of the bars will figure later in this blog!
We called it an early night after resisting 25 cent beers and woke up early to go for a walk. After a two hour walk along the beach we went back to check out the pool. It was huge, warm and in the sun, after that walk it was just heaven. As we were sat in the pool Callum and Rachel walked in shouting congratulations! They recommended the place we were staying and as we told them we took their advice they knew we were there and came back from Koh Rong to stay there again for a few nights to see us! Was really good to see them and share stories with each other about our Christmas and New Years.
So the four of us went out for a posh Italian to congratulate us further and then off to watch the football on Saturday with cheap beers and 241 cocktails. Then it was down to the beach. We had a few drinks and then a boy came over to us selling fireworks. He spoke English very well and seemed nice so we bought some off him. He lit it and you held up and it shot out the end. Sounds dangerous but the safety in Cambodia is better than England..... Not. But it was more like a sparkler really. Rachel had hers lit and then turned it upside down thinking the fuse should have been down the bottom. Cambodian children running away saying no no no she quickly turned it around then took it upon herself to pretend she was Harry Potter. She was firing the Sparks in all directions shouting spells. Me, Anne-Marie and Callum were all rolling around on the floor laughing.
Then we went into the bars once more. There was a bar with a stage with a lot of people dancing on. Doesn't take much to guess who the first one on the stage was out of us lot. Yep, Anne-Marie. We was all having fun and then a man climbed up, fell and knocked over 5 girls like dominoes. Poor old Anne-Marie fell backwards hitting her head and splitting it open! Callum and Rachel were too good in the situation and helped us both calm down. Rachel went to get an ambulance to take us to the hospital. What turned up was a tuk tuk haha. 5 hours, 3 stitches and a few injections later she was all better. Although wasn't happy about wearing the headband for a week without getting it wet! Her hair was like Bob Marleys and she fitted right in with the hippies here. We did our best to get rid of the blood in the morning but a lot of hair was lost. We went back to get the wound cleaned and they said get it cleaned daily and come here on Saturday to have the stitches taken out. The best bit about being taken to that hospital, apart from how good the doctor was obviously, was that KFC was opposite! Get in!
Now it's over to Koh Rong. An island off Sihanoukville which we've been told is paradise.
We've been in Sihanoukville for what feels like forever, but we had some days to kill chilling by the pool and around the different beaches. We've met so many friends here the last week and it was sad saying bye to them. But there's ones were meeting up with again. Today we pack our bags and head to Kampot our last stop in Cambodia.
