Anna's travels......
Uyuni Tour
Thursday:
Got to Uyuni at 3.30am in the morning. Freezing. The tour company never told us this bit! Had to book into a hostel as the tour doesn`t start until 10.30am.
Met our group in the morning. Nice bunch. Gwill from UK, Dorg from Germany, Sibble from Swit, and 2 japans girls (not 100%) sure on their names.
The guide spoke no English. Fantastic!! The tour company forgot to mention this as well. We were all bundled into a little red jeep. All the bags etc put on the top.
The first stop on the trip was the Salt Lakes. There looked amazing. 12,000sq ft of salt. This happened because of a volcano erruption and it caused the sea to rised and then the salt just dried out. The Salt Lakes are 3800meters about sea level. Rather chilly up there but the sun was beaming and not a cloud in the sky. After that we went to The Fish Island, not sure why called this, but it is a island in the middle of the lakes with lots of cactus`s on. Had lunch there. Not the best lunch in the world, cold meal and cold chips and salad. Interesting, the bolivians really know how to spoil you!
After lunch drove through the volcanos to our stop for the night, San Juan. A really small villiage, probably only a few hundred people live there. Stayed at a familys house. Went for a walk and saw lots of Lama's, they were really cute, especially the baby ones.
Friday:
Visited volcanos and lakes with flamingos in. The lakes were amazing. They acted like mirrors and the reflextion of the mountains were in the lakes. Looked so pretty. The flamingos looked nice, but smelt!!!
Stayed in the flamingo park tonight, all 7 of us in a dorm. It was like being on a school trip. And one of the guys, I think Gwill, Snored!!!! Arghh. Another freezing night. Even the beer and rum didn`t warm me up.
Saturday:
Up at 5am. So dark and guess what, Cold!! It was about minus 15, minus 20. Don't like the cold!! Went to visit some hot spring and guysers. One of the guysers (steam from the ground coming from the volcanos) went up 350meter high. It was nice putting my hands in the steam to warm me up. At the hot springs there were little pool areas. The water was so hot. I put my feet in, but some of the others stripped of and jumped in. It was nice in the water but still so cold outside so there was no way I was taking my clothes off. Shoes off was ok.
Had breakfast, the guide treated us to scrambled egg!! Whoopie!! At least it was hot.
Saw some more lakes then was dropped off on the Chilian boarder to go to San Pedro. And San Padro was nice and hot, yippee!!! It was so funny, as soon as we got over the boarder, the roads all went smooth, so different to the bad bump roads in Bolivia.
Great trip, but so, COLD.
