Anna's travels......
La Paz - nice hey!!??!
Got here last night about 9.30pm - 10pm from Copacabana, Lake Titicaca. It took nearly five hours, so much for the 3 hr bus ride! I had to get off at one point and get a boat across the river. It was such an experience. All the tourist buses were booked so I had to get the local one. They put my rucsac on the roof!! I was a little concerned but I got it back at the end.
Once we got near to la paz it was horrible. Very poor and dirty. People having fires in the streets!! I was hoping the bus would turn back round.
Got to La Paz and felt so un safe. I was talking to this american couple who were meeting there friend who lived here. They had been here last week and knew the area. So what do that do. Help me? Offer to share a cab? Let me get in the first cab?. No, the horrible people got in the first taxi and waved at me?? I was so angrey. I would never do that to someone. I got a cab ok and went to the hostel I picked in the book. Not very nice. No hot water this morning. I am now going to look for a new one. Central la paz is not as bad, and all looks a little better in the light.
Saturday:
Alan arrived this afternoon. We ened up at Olivers Travels an English bar, started drinking then it continued from there. Met up with the Irish girls, small world hey. After a bottle of white wine, many cocktails then JD and coke I was smashed. End up going home about 1.30am, didn`t even make it to the club.
Sunday:
HANGOVER all day. Longest ever day. Bed by 10pm.
Monday:
Walked round town, checked the place out. All much the same everywhere you go. Someone trying to clean your shoes (the shoe cleaners wear balaclava`s here, strange?! They don`t want people to know who they are). Also markets everywhere. All over the streets. There is a witches market where there are dead animals hanging on the stalls. I was tempted to buy one, held back though.
Went to Cinema to watch "Be Cool", great film, very funny.
Tuesday:
Up at 6am (oh no!). Then met the group and did the World Most Dangerous Road on bikes. Irish girls and Willy were there also. It was great. Hard going up hill in the high altitude. Good going down hill. Though I did hold onto my brakes very hard. My fingers was hurting! The drop down the side of the cliff was very deap. People have died before doing this trip. And many trucks go off the side each year, hence the name. When we got to the bottom we were all covered in mud, all over our faces, everywhere. But we were dropped at the bottom and had a shower and lunch at the hotel, and a beers. Even though coming down the hill was scary, going up the hill in the mini bus was even more scary. The road is so narrow that when there is another lorry is coming down they nearly go off the side. We saw some near misses.
Met my mate near tonight, I wasn`t feeling good so left Neil and Alan to get drunk together.
Wednesday:
Got ready for our trip. Going to Uyuni today. 3 day trip, ending in San Pedro.
The bus we got we total crap!!! Freezing cold. Seat was broke so had 12 hours of sitting up right. Then the window was broke so kept coming open. Even with my sleeping bag on I was still cold! Arghhhhh Bolivia!!!!!
